YOOMP! Anyone ever played this stunner on Atari 8-bit?

Yoomp!, such an amazing feat of programming and coding, to actually see this running on an Atari 800xl is something else, no trickery or expansion packs, just amazing talent to fit and create such a game on an old 8-bit machine.

Created in 2007, it won awards and was hailed a winner across the board, the thought of going back in time to 1983 and loading this game up would just make anyone's jaw drop

I finally managed to complete it without the aid of codes, cheats, rollbacks or savestates, just me against the game on real hardware (Atari 800XL).
I just wanted to share with anyone interested my complete run with commentary, I'm very proud of completing this beauty

I only played the C64 port. The Atari version looks quite a bit better, I must admit

Yes, it is an awesome technical achievement, even if it does remind me of Trailblazer. But the puzzles are awesome, as is the way the ball bounces in time with the excellent music.

I'm fairly sure Amiga version (versions?) are hopefully coming. But the original Atari 8-bit version was astounding and still played by me regularly.

Same here. The game and the music on C64 is mindblowing!

The Amiga version should come soon. From what I understood it is over 80% finished.

I want to see a 128k Spectrum version.

Regardless of all the unnoficial versions following the Atari 8-bit version, the Atari 8-bit is the true masterpiece, no wonder it was the format chosen to create this mega game on.

I got the boxed edition with the cart, disk and cassette and of course it takes forever to load from cassette, but if you get the opportunity you should try it anyway because like some other Atari games, it reserves one of the audio channels of the tape for loading music and even that music (which essentially nobody ever hears) is enjoyable!

That was a unique feature of the Atari 8-Bits that I've not seen anywhere else, that one stereo side of the cassette tape was used for the data, but the other was given to audio output of any kind, like a regular cassette. Atari in its heyday made the most of it, with educational packages providing spoken instructions during loading, or in the case of the Lone Raider, unique Atari POKEY music including Flight of the Bumblebee!

Remember, all this speech and music is played WHILE the software is loading, you can hear the data signal in the background! How many other systems of the time could do that, eh?

Me too, cost me a fair bit but totally worth it especially when you can just slap in the original cartridge into the original XL, just makes it even better.
Never saw the point of the YOOMP pencil, I mean if I was going to note the level codes I would have typed them out on a piece of paper,...which I did, I'm not going to abuse my nice inlay card

Marcin, the main programmer has also commented on my longplay video, so cool to know the guy who created the game watched the whole video
