Hi Guys,

which C2P routine do you think suits 030/50 (Blizzard 1230-IV) better, please:

- DoomAttackSupport/c2p/c2p_020_blitter
- DoomAttackSupport/c2p/c2p_020_optimized
? :-)

There's no 030-dedicated routine in the package http://aminet.net/package/game/shoot/DoomAttack

Have a look at this thread which compares blitter to optimized and also against akiko on the tf330 (50mhz 030)

Thanks a lot, @trixster
c2p_020_blitter is the way to go with 030, then.
To be fair, that's the one I used for years, but it's always better to make sure ;-)

Hello.
Does any one know if it would be possible to get real MIDI music from DoomAttack using a serial to MIDI adapter and an external MIDI device such as Roland SC55?

@Calabazam

Grab the camdoomsound patch I just reuploaded to the zone. All thanks to pipper and his awesome work!

You'll also need camd from aminet of course.

@vulture:

Thanks to you i have indeed DoomAttack music playing from the Roland SC55 now.
Music is nice but kind of easylistening compared to heavy metal riff i can see on Youtube in the first level.
I think there is nothing to setup manually on the SC55, just like with a MT32, but perhaps there is something to do on the Amiga to have the proper instruments?

@Calabazam

Glad you got it working m8!

All thanks go to pipper really, he made it possible with his Camdoomsound patch

Now, I seem to recall that SC-55 can be put in mt-32 mode somehow, but I don't remember any details.

I found this: "Hold down right instrument button when powering on"

I found a manual and says "instrument left" instead, but that's for MkII, maybe MkI is different and need "instrument right" like you said

Here it is:
http://cdn.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/SC-55MKII_OM.pdf

EDIT:

here's the MkI manual:
https://cdn.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/SC-55_OM.pdf

Seems like it's the left instrument button for this model as well (page 32).

Yeah I have the mk1. I didn’t meant it sounds like mt32 though, just that MT32 does not need any config to work with games. However perhaps I am indeed in mt32 mode. Going to check this and also try from real msdos doom with my bridgeboard to see if there is any difference.

Doom is made with General Midi in mind. Switching the SC-55 into MT32 mode will likely sound very off.
You could try a software synth on a PC and change sound fonts on there…

No, what I meant is that maybe you need to go into mt-32 mode for it to sound right.

edit:

just saw pipper's reply, so, probably what he said

Ok i have reset the SC55 to GS to be sure, according to manual.

Here is how DoomAttack (Amiga) sounds in the first level:

https://uploadnow.io/s/da3f9317-f924...3-6e6ff617bd02

Here is how Doom (PC) sounds from the audio card of my bridgeboard side connected to the SC55:

https://uploadnow.io/s/518ecb80-0756...4-18fc329a212e

Sorry for poor recording with my IPhone.

Both are nice to hear but seems very different than reference for SC55 here :

[ Show youtube player ]

Looks like mine is partly played on piano.

Perhaps there is a problem with my SC55 unit. Fortunately, i think i have another one somewhere to check again.

EDIT : ok case solved, after a full reset factory, not just GS, it sounds like Youtube record. Actually, my initial setup was not bad to hear and way less stressful, i should have saved the setup somehow :-)

Indeed, both the bridgeboard and the Amiga sound different to the reference. As you said. like the guitar has been replaced by piano. That seems to be a different mapping. Can't you try to replace it manually and save it? No idea if it's possible, just a thought.

It could also be an issue with how CAMDoomSound works. Make sure to start it before you start DoomAttack and leave it running while you play Doom.
