Workbench startup error message
Hi
I deleted some drawers/folders at my amiga 600 HD workbench. And now I got some annoying error messages at the startup of workbench. Anyone know how I can remove these? Last edited by billeohamn; 07 November 2021 at 14:49. |

You have deleted the Civilization folder.
To fix this you have to delete the assignment to that folder, edit the user-startup and delete this assignment or disable it with a semicolon ( ; ) before the string |

Yes, you can also run ED and then open the file from the menu.
To run the ED command you just have to put something next to it, for example: C:ED x In the user-startup you have to do this: ;Work:Civilization then save |

Amiga can add the various commands in several places like User-startup, Startup-sequence, WBStartup, Game Execution Script etc..,
You have to look where the assign "Work:Civilization" was inserted, check in the mentioned places, OS2 like OS 1.x also uses other files like StartupII that you find in S: |

I would (seriously) recommend you buying "Using the Amiga Workbench" book from Commodore. It is a manual that was bundled with A600.

If your hardfile is small, if you send it to me via PM I can fix it and then maybe explain what I did.
In the meantime you are asked for a volume name, probably you have changed that too or there is no device with that name.... The volume name can stay as it is, but you have to assign the old name to the new volume name. Amiga simply does what it is told in the various startups Amiga is a very simple system where you will always have clear messages to help you solve problems. |

You can see in startup-sequence the section where it says
if exists s:user-startup execute s:user-startup endif So that's where you should look - and of course it's possible that user-startup calls a further script. |

I can write everything in notepad at my PC and send you an email. Then you can change it at your place and send it back, and I Will do your change. Is that okay with you?
I cant get The file out of my Amiga to my PC. |

There is probably no need to do that, just open up the user-startup script, as you opened up startup-sequence, find any lines referring to civilization and comment those out with a ";" character.

I understand, but I'm still not sure if you have looked at the "user-startup" file or not? It's a different file than "startup-sequence". There may also be other scripts that load during booting, you should really check everything in the SYS:S directory.
Typing all of these for someone else to examine will be a whole lot of work |

If you are using OS 2.1 or higher you can transfer data to a FAT formatted floppy. Amiga can read any type of floppy from both MAC and Windows worlds, 720 KB if you have a DD floppy drive, 1.44 MB if you have an HD floppy drive. For the errors, as already said you have to edit the file user-startup that you find in SYS:S |

Woohoo, just two error messages left.
I cant find them in the startup sequence or the other script. Any ideas? Please see my screenshot of the script. The user-startup is now empty, so it has to be in the startup-sequence. Last edited by billeohamn; 07 November 2021 at 14:48. |
