The Arcade has FM sounds, some of which might be a bit difficult to reasonably convert into samples
have you heard Super Sprint remake tunes? It's amazing how the FM sounds have been rendered on an amiga.

Yes loved this game and was the Amiga's AAA conversion in the early years. Must be almost arcade perfect for sure. I only ever played the arcade once and was a few years earlier but seemed to have the same features on 1st and 2nd level

Do people think an almost 100% perfect (i know the arcade has higher resolution) conversion of Ghouls N Ghosts is possible? I enjoyed the official conversion at the time but looking back on it is very lacking - especially with that huge score panel

I also enjoyed the Strider conversion at the time massively. Just goes to show how some games were still good games even when they could have been a lot better

Being a huge arcade junkie; and one that could almost finish Strider in the arcades on 1 credit... I was hugely disappointed with the Amiga port

Of course you only need to look at who did this conversion... the worst of the worst i.e. Tiertex.

I'm not in love with the Megadrive version either though It's a hard game to love a port of. But the Amiga version was just weird. Slow movement, horrendous sound and bosses that were reduced to nothingness.

I just watched the 1st and part of the 2nd stage of the Megadrive version:

[ Show youtube player ]

Way better than the very mediocre Amiga version.

...but yes, nothing beats the arcade original; what a game

You have been very good with the Amiga version imo, it could have been more to the level of megadrive or PC Engine if handled by decent coders; it ended up with Tiertex
Closest thing to it is Assassin Special Edition, that gives one idea on how could have been...

And the ending having nothing to do with the original...

In the 90s I did play the Rainbow Islands coin-op machine as well as the Amiga conversion side by side. I am, to this day, impressed by how the port retained a huge amount of the feel of the arcade version. I appreciate that whole sections of the game are missing but to get the overrall feel of the game onto an A500 was amazing. It sounded so similar and the colour palletes and sprite sizes were all spot on.

I still play Pang occasionally.
Sure, it's a rather simple game, but still awesome quality.

What is your picks for even better port?
Rygar from our friend mcgeezer?
Rainbow Islands?
SilkWorm?
Ghost and Goblins?
Something else?
(haven't recently played and compared the above games, that's why I ask).
Pang ain't perfect, but it's a good and fun port.
I also tried Rainbow Island, also a pretty fun port.

i was thinking about the 2 at time rivals, Atari ST and Amiga
and the fact that the 2 better arcade ports imo were 2 Taito games
Bubble Bobble on ST and Rainbow Islands on Amiga
Tiny Bobble has filled the little gap lol

now, i'm dreaming a Tiny Strider and a Tiny Forgotten Worlds too

It's a good game on the Amiga, but a bad arcade port imo.

Looks nothing like the original

Everything from the coinop is there. Nothing missing and the game use real 64 colors (not halfbright), 4 palettes of 16 colors.

That's impressive you even found Strider in the UK. I actually never saw it in the arcade. Yes if you compare directly - Amiga version doesn't compare. One of the arcade versions of Strider is really annoying - when he makes that 'uh' noise when he swings his sword. I think they took that out of the Western version

I would say to anyone who hadn't played the arcade they probably enjoyed the conversion at the time - C&VG gave it a good review I remember. But yes by today's standards isn't very good

I'd agree with that - but was a shame about the screen size being reduced - even at the time. And that does effect playability a bit
