Skate or Die Title Music - in TFMX

OK, this isn't really a request, but maybe the best forum to post this.

Back in 1990 I converted the custom player with the (never released) "Skate or Die" title music which uses the Rob Hubbard play routine to TFMX - by hand. If I remember correctly, this took me a few days, mostly because of one instrument, whose sample is modified by the play routine in-memory during play. That is also the reason why this was done in TFMX which has a programmable macro function that is able to alter the sound data.

The instrument is rather simple, so this could've been realized as a normal "chip" sample, I guess, but back then I didn't think it through.

Anyways, here's the download. Please tell me if there are problems when accessing it, then I would look for an alternative download location.

MnemoTroN / Spreadpoint

This is the readme I just created:

Code:
SKATE OR DIE - Title Music

Format: TFMX 4 voice

Converted from the original RH-Player (Rob Hubbard, allegedly)
in 1990 by MnemoTron / Spreadpoint.

Released: 2019-10-27

This is a manual conversion I originally did in 1990, which I found again when
reactivating my Amiga 3000. This was done by disassembling the play routine,
decoding the patterns and tracks, extracting the instruments and putting it all
together again in TFMX.

The track uses the TFMX format because it needs the macro function for one
instrument that is synthetically generated by the play routine. It's rather
simple, so maybe generating a normal sample could've worked, but I also
wanted to "create" something in the TFMX editor.

Nice, but I'd be more interested in any [unreleased] "Skate or Die" game files that you converted this from

Sadly I don't have more Skate or Die files. I got the music from a compilation disk by Ackerlight that included the binary and also had the title music of "Sanxion" on it, that used the same play routine.

When I think of Spreadpoint the first thing that comes to mind is X-large.
I've always liked it.

Welcome Mnemotron

Thank you all for the warm welcome, but this is my second incarnation, actually. My old account from 2016 fell victim to the rules of the forum and got deleted because I didn't post as much before.

See here, for example.

But it's good to be back (again).

Thanks for the heads-up, I tried emailing without registering, but that probably wasn't read by anyone. I'll try that.

Origin of rh.skateordie

Hello there.

Very nice info on this one.

Do you know where that rh.skateordie originally comes from?
Was it made by Rob Hubbard and where did you get it (or where was it
available at the time)?

Thanks to you if you have any info about it.

Regards

Whoops, just saw the replies "a bit" late. Thanks, yeah, RCK merged the accounts.

As for the origins of the Skate or Die music, I have no idea. I found it on that Ackerlight disk, as mentioned above. The player code itself is quite similar (or the same) as the David Whittaker routines, if I recall correctly. Maybe Hubbard was given the Whittaker code or someone else did the Amiga conversion.
