World Games: win log rolling?

Hi,
does anyone know how to defeat the computer player in the log rolling event of World Games? I can't even really figure out what this event is all about! I guess I have to put the other guy into the water but how the points are calculated is completely beyond me! If anyone has a hint I'd be very happy...

Hmmm, it's been ages (like 15 years) since I played this.

I think I vaguely remember, athough I may be wrong. You just need to move in joystick in the opposite direction to what the opponent is moving. The opponent changes direction and then you need to also change direction (opposite of course).
