a couple of demos i remember fondly include World of Commodore 92 which was a nice upbeat A500 demo. And on the A1200 Control , Origin and Motion Origin 2 in particular for its preview of the fears engine. Fave demo though is the Trsi/mellowchips demo (Forget the exact name) which has some nice texture maped glowy scene going on possibly best amiga demo is ever seen at the time.
A demo I think was called TheEngine which showed what could have been a wipeout game on the amiga. was quite fast too, too bad it never came to anything. |

ECS is really only different from OCS in that it has more chipmem for animation buffers (Joyride, anyone?) Haven't seen one that takes advantage of the extra chipset features.
On OCS, a coder's skill could usually be measured by his ability to make fast vectors. Some demos made coders go 'how the...?' 1. Vector Preview by Tai-Pan/CPX 2. Hunt for Red October by Tec/CRB 3. 3D Intro by Tai-Pan/PHX Some coders steered clear of 3D and did other skilled things (impossible playfields, animation buffer tricks spring to mind). It's cool to make something impossible which is an illusion ofc. There's also something to be said for those who spend days and weeks optimizing and rewriting a single effect to attain 'impossible speed'. Tropical sunset by Silents is one of the early 2-D greats. In later years, I saw an intro with a flight through seemingly fractal clouds in beige tones, but I always forget the group, so if anyone wants to refresh my mind... And ofc, there is no denying Arte is a stylish, meticulously programmed trackmo. I love it, especially the vectors at the end. What still has me puzzled is how they "filled the horizon" when it's diagonal (fills the screen). Since the vectors aren't interactive, perhaps the whole scene is pre-calced and pre-clipped to save fills, but I doubt it. The first vector thingy I saw on Amiga was vectorbobs, in the classic MFC intro. It takes someone to come up with stuff like that. No idea if they were first, but I intend to find out Speaking of just that, one coder stands out. That coder is Celebrandil. He was first with a lot of things-- Transforms in the Interpol demo, Sawcut in Animotion, good raytracing... the reason, I think, was because he excelled at math. I probably missed a bunch of demos and coders, but it's getting late... bedddd... soooon... Last edited by Photon; 24 September 2007 at 03:18. |

Shining's Vector Exterminator (1991) features bitmap zoomers and super fast vectors, among some other effects that were very fresh both idea and code wise.
Sanity's Arte and World of Commodore were already mentioned, which probably are the two most technically advanced demos for the A500. A bit of a one trick pony, but the texture mapping effects on Spreadpoint's Cube-o-matic (1991) were so ahead of their time that they left most groups play catch for a long time. On AGA machines Oxygene's Cuzco (1994) did a same kind of feat three years later, rotating a 1x1 pixel resolution light sourced texture mapped cube superbly smooth on a vanilla A1200. I'm not sure how to rate them, but I always had a soft spot for "Copper Master" by Angels and the loader for RSI Megademo.
And then you have TBL demos... |

Vector Cubes by Bonzai have cubes with textures. There is a reason it's not on YouTube.

Accession made intro with some complex human running on pseudo 3D terrain, it may be some smart trick but I never saw something similar on Amiga 500:

I remember that all the programmers in my group were impressed with this storm intro:
[ Show youtube player ] in 89/90 was very impressive. Cube-O-Matic by Spreadpoint was in 1991 I think. |

Never saw this one before, very impressive indeed! Would be a feat if someone pulled a similar effect on a vanilla A500 even today.

I think any of 64k demos blow my mind. How they fit so much into so little code
