Do you want an idiots guide to setting up OS4 on WinUAE?
Not sure how to set up a poll so I'll just ask the question
I'm currently putting together an optimization guide for WinUAE 3.3.0/OS4 so that users can get the most out of the new features introduced in WinUAE 3.3.0 - this guide covers the following: Getting WinUAE features up and running (uaegfx, uaenet.device, sound card support etc.) Optimizing OS4 for the best balance between functionality and free RAM. Suggested apps and games that run well under emulation - where to find them and how to configure them. What my guide *doesn't* cover is installing OS4 in the first place - my thinking being that there's already multiple guides on how to do this. However, some of them contain incorrect and/or redundant material and generally (to me) most of the guides I've seen are more convoluted than I feel they need to be. If this new release of WinUAE is primarily of interest to those of you already running OS4 under 3.2.2 then another setup guide isn't going to be of much interest - but if there's a bunch of potential new OS4 users waiting for 3.3.0 to be finished then perhaps an up-to-date install guide is a good idea. What do you think? |

An alternate title that I would have used is "OS4 under WinUAE for simpletons like you."
Anyway, nice idea, and I look forward to this guide. |

Hey guys - the response to this idea hasn't been overwhelming so I'm going to put it on the back-burner until the OS4/Classic optimisation guide is done.
Most of the info needed for installing OS4 on WinUAE is out there anyway - I just figured it'd be nice to have it up-to-date and all in one place. |

I think you're missing the point. It was just a stupid joke, a play on words.
@Aegis I hope my attempt at being funny hasn't put you off the guide. Although some people can Install OS4.1 O.K, a lot more struggle with it. |

Just waiting to see what the response is really - I've already committed to doing an optimization guide for 4.1 FE Classic timed to the release of WinUAE 3.3.0 but I still think an up-to-date guide to installing OS 4.1 under WinUAE would be useful. |

How does it go with the guide ? Now we have Winuae 3.3.0 and would be nice to see a guide on howto make the best os4 config to save memory and other importan bits and pieces. For howto install theres already guides. Needed is the best settings in winuae config, kicklayout etc

Well I definitely vote for it great idea. Especially like the bit about the best s/w to run on it etc. I keep thinking about getting OS4 4.1 FE but keep coming to the same conclusion that's it's not worth the effort as there is bog-all s/w that I couldn't run under 'classic' OS3.x etc.
Would also really appreciate a plain English explanation of all this 3D driver mumbo jumbo. Getting Wip3out running under OS 4.1 could persuade me but whenever I've tried to investigate it on EAB & other forums it just descends into a load of unfathomable rubbish about Warp3D something something that makes no sense to a normal person. So yes please from me at least! |

Instead of idiot guides and tutorials, why not make a large FAQ which covers as many bases as possible.
Idiot guides don't help anyone grow. |
