2MB+ ChipRAM

Hello,
Someone knows if there is any way to increase ChipMem above 2MB?
I want to display some photos in my amiga but all I get is the "Out of Memory" error
Thanks

There is no way. It is a physical limitation of the chips in the Amiga.

If all you want to do is view pictures:

Resize before transferring to the Amiga.
Use a decent picture display program. (One that uses Fast RAM for decode and scale)
Get a graphics card.

How much RAM do you have? What CPU do you have?

True but 512 MB should be enough to view a photo Maybe Shoonay with his l33t Vista 64 bit can tell us if he managed to set more than 512 MB of Z3 fastmem

Thanks for your replies. Alexh I have a Blizzard 68040 with 32MB.
I was thinking if there would be some way to use FastRam as to emulate ChipRam by hardware or software..

@AlfaRomeo

what you need to get your hands on i think is FBlit, this will store as much in fast ram and only move small chunks to and from Fast to Chip.

have a look on aminet

You just need a decent bit of software to display your pictures that obeys RAM priority. What program were you using?

After all a single 256 colour 640x256 picture cannot take up anymore chip RAM than any other!

Multiview? The program bundled with AmigaOS? If I remember correctly this is a datatype aware viewer. So what determines the RAM usage will be the datatype you are using.

You could try more upto date datatypes specially for AGA.

You could try SView5

@Alexh: I think Sview5 a bloated software. But too much heavy for a simple image viewer.

SviewII was the program I used when I was a kid. I bet it's not that hard to fathom.

I still use Viewtek (on A600/500/2000) and multiview with akDatatypes on 1200(T).

Yep, thats what i mainly use too, on my a1200 with Typhoon II 68030 and 16mb, works like a dream. did use fjpeg at one point but VT is much better at handling a wider file type.

Running X64 Vista here with 8Gb installed.

Using latest WinUAE, can select 1.5GB Z3 ram with the slider, but it doesn't appear to get that much:

No Idea if this is a Windows bug , or WinUAE limit.
