ADTWin - free tool for writing Amiga disks from a PC using parallel port

Hello folks,

Just came across this on the Amiga Forever website. Interestingly, it utilises the PC's parallel port to enable writing of Amiga disks using a standard PC floppy drive?!

Just out of curiosity, why is there not an alternative option created that is not as expensive as the Kryoflux if this is something which can be achieved via parallel port? I would have assumed some USB-to-Parallel emulation more focused on the Amiga aspects would be achievable?

A good project for anyone with the skills to take this up

Regards,

If it's based/remake of an old project (which I tested myself, successfully, many years ago ) it requires a custom-made cable which connects the PC floppy controller to the parallel port.
If so, it supports reading only, not writing.

No, this one only writes DD 880KB Amiga floppies. It cannot read them or write HD floppies, and only needs a real PC parallel port (no, USB to parallel adapter does not work).

And this is the exact link of the Amiga Forever page:

Wow, I didn't know it was possible...
I also took a look at the website (http://m1web.de/ADTWin/).

I wonder why the project is about writing disk and not reading too (one would think its simpler than writing). So, with ADTWin, I can write a 880KB disk from a .adf file but can't test (with the same project) if the write was 100% correct... (unless the software has an included verify option. Has it?).

Great project, though!

I didn't realise this was possible until I happen to check alternatives now I'm currently using serial connection to write ADF to my A500. Was surprised this has not caught on?

I doubt it will do protected disks, just simple AmigaDOS formatted disks.

I'm not sure. But I suppose most protected disks are cracked anyway? However, I don't understand this as well as you so I'll assume you're right lol.
