can someone setup a Paypal account so we can gather all donations somewhere? (I also can do it if no one steps in)

I really don't want to setup the contest since I want to take part of it, but if no one steps up I'll end up doing it

Those are some things I've been thinking about rules:

* for a first edition, while I like the idea of the 3 different categories, I also agree it could be better to have just a single "Anything goes" category, and we expect the Jury to consider if the game asks too much hardware to deliver too little one aspect to judge the games.

* Games should be distributed in .ADF format and should be 100% free in digital format. I dunno what you guys think about the devs releasing the games they use on the contest on physical format (charging for the game obviously), and if the devs could ask for donations or a fee to register, AS LONG AS the game has all features and it's 100% playable from a 100% free version. (Registering could just add the name of the user in the game or soemthing like this).

* We have to consider if games should be all made by a single guy or if teams can be assembled, and if teams should have a size limit.

* If free assets can be used on the game and if this would have an impact on the final grade or not.

* Duration of the contest... when do we start, when do we begin receiving entries and when do we end

* Do we have a jury (and who wants to be part of it - MSX Dev don't let any donors or participants of the contest to be part of it?) or games will be judged by the whole community? (I'd prefer the Jury way). How will the grading be done? - I thought each juror could grade the game in 4 aspects:
Graphics (0 to 5), Sound (0 to 5), Technical Aspects (0 to 5) and Gameplay (0 to 15). This would give a total of 30 possible points for each game (from each juror) , giving more weight for how well the game plays and how fun it its than the other aspects.

Or maybe each member of the jury could just give a 0 to 10 grade for each game, add the grades of each member and you have a final score.

* How will the prizes be given? (I like the MSX dev format.. 1st place get 50% of the donations, 2nd place gets 30% and 3rd place gets 20%). I'd like to add that I see no problem of a donor also being a contestant.

Any considerations / ideas?

I must say I am inclined to this direction too, at least for a first contest. Open category, let judges weight in on their final vote all those aspects. (Is the game a port? Does it use "stoles" assets? Was it made by a huge team? etc)

Like I said, I think each judge could using those factors:

Graphics: A grade between 0 and 5
Sounds: A grade between 0 and 5
Technical Aspects (Give me a better name for this please ): a grade between 0 and 5
Gameplay: A grade between 0 and 15

This will give a total score of 30 per game per each judge. If 2 or more games are tied, the total on Gameplay should be the tie-breaker.

Then we add those rules:

If the game...:

Uses "stolen" art: loses 1 point on graphics and 1 point on technical
Uses free mods: loses 1 point on graphics and 1 point on technical
Is a port: loses 1 point on technical
Needs more hardware than it really should: Loses 3 points on technical
Was fully made by a single guy: Earns 1 point on technical

And the graphical aspect should be judged against on what chipset the game is running. It's obviously easier to do a prettier game on AGA than on OCS/ECS.

Play "Loom" with him .
You will save money from Disney (who is actually also the owner of all LucasArt's adventure games...)

WHOAAAAAA......

I best up my coding skills!

How's about getting this on the Vintage is the new old site or Indie Retro News...? It would gain a bit traction then. Perhaps get them to sponsor it or something?

This could be Shatterhands' thunder though.

Yeah - I think Kitty runs VITNO so might be worth a nudge to her.

I honestly thought Akira was banned for some reason, maybe he just left I guess. Hope both of them are OK.

You are completely crazy (in a positive way)!

Unfortunately it doesn't motivate me to take part, because my new game is finished now and will probably be first shown at the "Function" demo party in Budapest.

Yeah probably

...but I like to support the Amiga community and if I can, provide incentives.

Plus I always put my money where my mouth is and don't make false promises that I can't keep

Shatterhand PM'd me last night, he's been busy, but as expected should be back to take control in september.

I let him know we opened up for entries, and I'm sure he would be grateful for all the attention that can be garnered.

One day I will also be a consultant IT specialist earning the big bucks, not working for a education establishment.
