View HTML documents on Amiga OS 3.1?

Since i doubt i'll ever put my Amiga on the net, i don't see the need for a webbrowser, but that might very well be the only option in the end.
What i need is a way to read HTML documents that are local, in the way they are meant to be read. As in pages, not as source. Mainly due to the documentation for WHDload being in HTML form, for some reason.
Right now, while i'm running on WinUAE it's not that much of an issue, but i forsee a need to be able to read the documentation in the future as well, after i transfer on to the Amiga.

Any advice on software is appreciated.

Well, a browser is basically a HTML viewer, so what else are you thinking about? I'd just get iBrowse.

My point is that a browser includes a lot more then just a HTML engine. But i'll check iBrowse out.

Their was a HTML datatype, but a browser is likely more accurate for layout.

There is http://aminet.net/package/dev/basic/dark for example, but I'm not sure it'll display those docs correctly (like Mad-Matt already mentioned).

There are two packages I used to use for simple HTML:

http://aminet.net/text/hyper/moreHTML.lha

http://aminet.net/text/show/EvenMore.lha

MoreHTML looks like a tiny fast browser. EvenMore is a very nice proportional text viewer with HTML support. moreHTML comes with source, EvenMore you can add plugins.

Loads of alternatives. I like. I'll go over them and see what dependencies they have. If i can, i'd like to keep it standalone, it's just going to be for a few readme's anyway.

Thank you everyone.

Hi B, I think you should look also for Next on Aminet. It can open html files, ms-word files, amigaguides (even without amigaguide.library), ms-help files, unix man pages, and others (I cited the most useful). It needs only OS 3.0 and dont uses MUI.

I have the simplehtml.datatype 0.16 by Sebastian Bauer installed on my WinUAE system, which works pretty well, but there was a problem with German umlauts (ä,ö,ü) in links (1. char of the internal target name), and I was looking for a possible update.

I found some dead download links for the version 0.17 and then the homepage of Sebastian Bauer with v01.8. The application SimpleHTML 0.18 works, but the simplehtml.datatype always freezes or gives an alert $8000000A, whatever I try. Unfortunately no Enforcer hits.

https://www.sebastianbauer.info/inde...iga/simplehtml

Does anybody still have the simplehtml.datatype v0.17?

Or is there something that v0.18 needs to work? It just opens an empty page and freezes, the mouse too, but the system (clock) is still running. No failures are shown in a SnoopDos log file under Windows, nothing in WinUAE logs.

Yes, I remember 0.18 crashing for me too.
So, like you, I stuck to the older version.

Unfortunately I think your "0.16" version is probably 0.17 - 0.17 is dated 14.07.01 and that is the date stamp on the version I have, but it reads as 0.16 (13.05.01).
This version can be downloaded from the archived copy of his old website where it is presented as 0.17:

Thanks, you're right, James!

The 0.17 from web.archive.org is the same as my 0.16 version. So, I will ask Sebastian to check that, although it seems that he is busy with more serious IT projects than coding for old kids toys.

0.18 DT would be great if it added Back and Forward commands too (or hidden keyboard shortcuts) but it actually crashes badly
SimpleHTML separate Tool works fine though and allows browsing Back and Forward...

Today, I noticed that even web browsers can't handle special characters like umlauts (ä,ö,ü) in strings of href link targets. So, that seems not to be a bug in the simplehtml.datatype v0.16, but maybe more a limitation of HTML, that I didn't know. However, in my IconLib.html document I've converted all these chars already before I released it at Aminet.

Nevertheless, I could try to ask Sebastian Bauer for a fix of 0.18 and the additional command buttons.

Update: I got a reply from Sebastian. He has added this issue to his ToDo list, but he can't promise that an update will come soon or in the near future, because he has not enough time to do that.
