Icons not showing fir XFS mounted ADF volumes.

When I mount ADF images with XFS everything works except some, not all, of the icons show and I have to switch WB over to view all files and txt to be able to see them. I noticed this when installing Music-X from the coverdisk ADF in the zone. Any ideas?

*sorry wrong subforum, was intending to be in support apps but screwed up...

This is normal and has nothing to do with XFS, the files that don't show normally have no icon files (.info) attached to them.
"Show all files" will show everything even that which has no icons.

Hmm... In this case there was a .info file for the Music-X installer but it did not show up in the window. There were other .info files to but they also did not show up in the window for the mounted ADF.

What are the names exactly of these ADF files in the zone? I couldn't find anything related to Music-X.

Were they not overlapped?
Did you try doing a window->Cleanup ?

I had this happening at times and it was because icons were overlapping.

@PeterK, it was the Amiga Format Coverdisk 58A I believe. I will double check when I get home, I browsed the zone directly for and didn't go through AMR.

@Akira, yes, I tried a clean up and looked for drag-able borders but nothing was there. I got it to install, just thought it was weird and am pretty sure I have seen that behavior before. FWIW I am running ClassicWB and all that entails.

Ok, tried that disk and loaded the MusicX.dms with WinUAE on my OS 3.9 system. That's why the colors are wrong, but I can see all the icons in the root directory. The same result for an OS 3.1 system. Also works when MusicX.dms is mounted with DiskImage. Didn't try XFS.

The file I downloaded contained Music-X 2.0 and three ADF files.

It was called MusicX_2.0_DIC_ok!

Anyway, my disk1 only shows "install modules" and my disk2 shows no icons. The .info files are on the "disk" oh well. I will keep an eye out for it happening in the future.

***EDIT*** Went and grabbed the same disk, AF58A and same issue, no icons, not from the ADF and not from the DMS disks inside of it.

Is there another program I can use to mount these instead of XFS?

No with XFS the icons of MusicX2.0_ xtradisk(2).adf and MusicX2.0_xtradisk(3).adf can be seen well, see screenshot.

As recommended test DiskImageGui or DiskImageGui 68k, but I think the problem remains for your system

Could also be an issue with ClassicWB. Which CWB edition and version are you using? Is it an edition with Scalos 1.2d as a WB replacement. Then check the Scalos preferences for correct icon settings.

Something is definitely wrong with your setup, here is a screenshot after I took the archive you mentioned (MusicX_2.0_DIC_ok) and mounted the first two disks using XFS:

Yes this is the one, its probably 9 years old now. I wouldn't know what to check.

@AmigaSystem, I like the way your workbench is set up! Real Amiga or Emulation?

Huh, a 9 year old CWB, that could be a problem, but I only remember ADVSP v27 and v28, which was the last update two years ago. It's probably not possible to update your old version and I'm also not sure if Bloodwych has still enough time to support and develop ClassicWB any further.

The icon loading in Scalos is done by its own iconobject.library and the iconobject datatype system. I hope you never tried to replace any of these iconobject related files by newer ones, because the API has changed several times and the Scalos version must match exactly the version of these files to work properly.

Thanks Peter, no I haven't mucked with anything Scalos related. I think I will just live with having to view text and go from there, After the programs are installed, the icons are fine. I will likely only ever mount stuff with XFS to perform installs to HD anyway.

You should install your own Workbench setup. This is one of the issues with pre-installed stuff, how would you be able to diagnose it when you didn't build it? Too many factors can go wrong. Especially on a copy that is 9 years old.

I have a decent understanding of Amiga OS but there is definitely a gap in knowledge when it comes to some of the more tacked on options like Scalos, MagicWB and other things like that.

Someday I will embark on a new fresh OS install, mainly because I want a newer file system, but right now, I have this one tweaked to where I want it. My BBS / Telnet works which took forever to set up, the doobrey scsi.device patch is working which also took forever to get set up. If missing icons in XFS mounts is my worst problem, I can live with it.
