AmigaOS 3.9 DataTypes aren't loading
I have an emulated A1200 in FS-UAE with 2Mb Chip and 8Mb Fast, an attached hard-disk on DH0 and a CD-ROM. I have installed AmigaOS 3.9 using the 'create emergency disk' method and it seems to boot ok but it doesn't load any datatypes so MultiView can't open an IFF, for example. I tried googling the problem but haven't found any answers. I can double-click on the ILBM file in the DH0evs/DataTypes folder and then MultiView can open the images. Has anyone seen this before and solved it? Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched but couldn't find it.

Did you edit S:Startup-Sequence? Make sure that you did not remove, skip or garble the AddDataTypes command.

How did you perform the installation of the system using "energency disk".
What did you do one by one |

Started with an empty HDD
- Booted with a Workbench 3.1 floppy - Created an empty emergency floppy - Mounted the 3.9 CD-ROM - Ran the 3.9 Installer and selected Create Emergency Rescue Disk and pointed it at the empty disk - Ejected all of the floppy disks - Booted from the new emergency disk - Ran the 3.9 installer from the CD-ROM again - This time selected the install option - Told it to use DH0 - Left it to run through Rebooted when prompted and got a message that it couldn't load the workbench background image. |

No, he is not. And that's also not what datatypes are for.
His issue is simply that AddDataTypes is apparently not executed when the system boots. I'd start by looking at the startup-sequence (and maybe posting it here). I remember that the OS 3.9 install never correctly worked for me in WinUAE either. There were always all sorts of odd issues after the installation. But that was years ago. Never cared much about 3.9 anyway, so never tried again in recent times. |

Ok I misunderstood. There are 3 versions of the OS 3.9 CD-Rom from what I've read and the first one with files no later than 29/11/2000 is buggy and doesn't install properly. This disc has a red label. It can be corrected with Boing Bag 1 (+2 if desired) The second CD-Rom is red labelled but is the SE version where some files are later than 29/11/2000 and some issues are fixed. The third CD-Rom has a Pink label and many issues are fixed.

I have never had any problems installing OS 3.9, of course on the Real Amiga you have to install OS 3.1 first and then upgrade. OS 3.9 in my opinion is the best and most advanced OS 3.x ! On WinUAE you don't need to install OS 3.1 first, you can do a native installation directly from CD using the technique of good Thomas. http://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-online.de/os39uae.html |

No problems on WinUAE - or it's Amikit with 3.9, just looked at some pics downloaded from Aminet.

I had some issue with WHDLoad where it couldn't find a game's data files when I had installed it in a folder instead of a hdf. Maybe something similar is happening here?
Have you tried using a hdf instead of a folder? |

Apologies for going quiet for a while there. I have just set up a hard file instead of a folder and installed OS 3.9 to that instead and the data types are working with this configuration.
Thanks to everyone who contributed - it does look as though there is something not quite working with folder-based hard drives. |
