Amiga 1200 power problems

Hi! I am having problems with the power on my A1200. Now and again whilst I am using it the machine keeps reseting as if there is a power surge.
I have read that the A1200 suffers from power problems if a HD and accellerator is attached.
Does anybody know which is the best A1200 power supply?
The one I have is a heavy brick type. I have removed the HD and accelerator and the machine doesn't have any problems now.

Thanks..

With HD and accelerator you need at least a 4,5A A500 PSU, but even better a modified PC PSU

Check the power connector on the motherboard. That area might need to be resoldered.

If you can get a A500 PSU, use that - its stronger than the A1200 ones. Or you could play save and use an AT or ATX PSU - You can figure out which wire should go where witha Voltmeter or using some shemes of Aminet (hard/hack).

Is your a hd a 2,5 or 3,5 one? in the later case it could be important where you draw your Power from. Maybe the A1200 has too weak internal Powerlines there.

I have a similar problem actually... with my A1200 with ram extension. Once its powed up it works fine, but the HDD struggles to spin up when you first power on. I might see if I can find an A500 PSU from somewhere and give that a go.

My Commodore A1200 worked for about 4 years with 2,5" HD 1,4GB +
Blizzard 1230IV with 16MB Ram installed (No FPU) using
the original Power supply.
Then I installed a CD-ROM drive 8x taking power from
the motherboard and again (but this time I was Lucky) it worked
for about one years until the power connector/wire suddenly broke
itself.
I ordered (and I suggest you to do) to Vesalia, at cheap price,
a (new) A500 PSU and a new CD-ROM drive (with its internal PSU).

All works fine!

I'm using an A1200 with Blizzard 1230 IV [with FPU] and 2.5 drive. I'm using a A500 PSU, there aren't any real problems except that when booting I have to boot and then reset in order to get the HD spinning fast enough to boot. Apart from that all is fine. If you're using a 3.5 HD then that is bound to use more power.
