Typhoon accelerator not letting WB boot up

Hi Fella's

My amiga has a grey screen that flickers every few seconds .
I have removed the card and it boots to WB very slowely .
When I put the card back in I get grey screen that flickers white for a split second then back to grey .

Now I have re inserted the Card and pulled the ram out and it boots fine .
But when I put the ram back in I ge the grey screen and no wrokbench

I have reseated the card and cleaned the pins . Can the ram be the issue ?

You got the upper shielding, if so, bend it slighty out of the way. As it may be shorting out the card.

No unfortunately I dont have a spare stick . Its 64mb and Mark II

The card sticks out slightly underneath and the ram would probably touch the surface the Amiga is sitting on .
It was fine the other day and today I fired it up and yellow screen to begin with and after a bit of fiddling its gone to a flickering grey screen .

Get your hands on another stick of Ram, any size will do just to test, 4/8/16mb

They Typhoon ck1200 has is my old card and it worked with every 72pin Simm I ever tried in it so anyone you can get hold of should be ok...

Must be someone in OZ here who's got a spare they can send you, I'd send you a 4 or 8mb stick gratis but it would take a week or so to get to you!

Good luck,
Steve.

Hi Steve ,

I found this on ebay and its in Australia . Would thid one suit ?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/16MB-72pin-FP...item2eadd46111

Also you think that the ram is likely the issue ? I would hate for the card to be damaged it was $160

Hi that Ram should be fine and since your A1200 boots without the Ram attached that would be the first thing I would change.

Good luck and I hope the card isn't damaged, I know how this feels my Apollo 1240 died recently

The 030 IIRC is soldered to the board on that card so not so easy to check, do you have a socketed FPU on the card? You could try to see if that is correctly seated or carefully remove it.

All the best.

Steve.

It booted up !!

Hey Steve,

I turned my 1200 on this morning and I got the usual flickering grey screen and got the "Software Failure" black & red screen . Then it proceeded to boot and I have WB with my 64mb Ram !!!

Is this possibly typical for the ram to be on its way out or is there another underlying problem

UPDATE : It has crashed again with the software failure screen and rebooted to WB . My poor old 1200 is having convulsions

As I unfortunately discovered, unless you can draw enough power from all of the rails of an ATX PSU, it may not provide enough juice on the +5 +12 etc rails to power an Amiga and an Accelerator.

If you want sticks of RAM in the future, I've got about 500 of them in various sizes and configurations.
