120GB HD in Amiga 1200?
I was fixing a 1st generation Apple TV and rediscovered a hard drive that I had forgotten about - a 120GB m.SATA drive in a 44-pin PATA adapter. It seems to work just fine when connected to the Mac. Seems like a good candidate for use in an Amiga, no more compact flash required.
What's the trick to using large drives like this these days, is it just that the boot partition must be in the first 4GB? I did some searching and have found various yes/no answers over the years but nothing specific to my OS, Hyperion 3.1.4.1. I have a 4xEIDE'99 buffered interface but possibly would just remove that if I only need one drive; I don't use an optical. From the docs with the 3.1.4.1 workbench update, looks like I can use a disk greater than 4GB because I have a physical 3.1.4 ROM, and I should use a larger block size (which 3.1.4.1 will detect and suggest)? |

With 3.1.4.x you don't necessarily need to have a tiny boot partition.
You should use a larger block size when using FFS. If you use PFS3, it does not support over 512k blocks. The disk is large enough that it is bigger than PFS3's maximum partition size (101GiB), if you wish to create only one partition. |

It works very well - block size of 16384. Who needs a CDROM or even a second drive when you can fit pretty much all the Amiga software ever on the drive?
