New Vampire Cards: Firebird and IceDragon

The Vampire team has announced that they will start producing new cards in 2022. The Firebird (red) will be made for A500, A1000 and A2000. The IceDrake is for the A1200.

Specifications are:
  • 512 MB
  • 2x IDE
  • 16 Bit audio
  • RTC
  • 100 MBit Ethernet
  • USB Joypad support

Looks like the Firebirds will be the first to reach the market. The IceDragon will close the line.

Igor, the mastermind behind the V2 for the A1200 stepped back from the team, because the workload and the impact on his private life were becoming to big.

It's good to hear Thomas Hirsch is back. I hope Gunnar doesn't wear him out.

Exciting news, good to see the V4 coming not only stand alone ... Sad Igor left and the V2 1200 cards probably never going to be made more of now though.. But the action will not stop, looking forward for the future and hope for mass production and not so much waiting this time around ...

Standalone would be nice. I dont know why it should use the internals of an Amiga.

That's a name I haven't heard in a long time
NatAmi is finally happening, in a way

BTW, I have always found very confusing how Gunnar doesn't do the slightest research on how certain names have already been used in the Amiga world - or maybe he just pretends he doesn't know about it so he can still use them - it's already highly confusing that the Apollo Team does not have anything to do with the old Apollo accelerators, but now you also have a FireBird, just like hese's AA3000+'s Prometheus based PCI daughterboard.

I guess that googling about hese's FireBird (which isn't already that much discussed since it's a very niche product) is going to be even harder from now on

Announcing something as basic as a RTC as a feature in 2021 makes me laugh every time I see it lol

I'm guessing the "Firebird" is actually identical to the V4 standalone? Without the DB9 ports and with the 68k socket soldered. Rebranded and announced as a new product.

This was first announced in August 2017 (https://www.apollo-accelerators.com/...ement_v1_5.pdf), with the release date set for Q4 2017, and the A500/A2000 model was supposed to be the first to be delivered. The A500/A2000 model of the accelerator never came, and the standalone was released about two years later.

This no doubt reopens the debate about custom chips in the FPGA!

Also, does this mean that the other, newly announced A1200 card - Raptor is now not going to happen?

As far as I understand, Raptor won't happen.

Couldn't they check the name Firebird. I don't think Hese will like this (Firebird is name of Prometheus based PCI daughterboard for AA3000+).

Acid: Sure RTC is nothing special, but since the original vampire do not have it is worth mentioning...

Havie: Raptor will not happen since it was planned to be made from Igor, who stepped down.. Now if they manage to make lots more cards the future looks bright

Firebird also was a game company in the 1980s.

Good news! Stand alone is called v4 and is already available.
V4 has features that are now introduced in the new Vampire cards.

It's a shame, sounded l like a good plan. When I got my V1200 a few months ago, Igor told me he was sitting on loads of cards. I wonder what happened?

Nice very exited about this, having been on 1200 v2 list for a long time! 16bit sound, that's awesome as well as native modes over HDMI.
