Is it safe and legal to use construction like that:

move.b $dff00b,d0

or

Code:

move.b $dff00a,d0

More general question. Is it legal to read byte from read only custom chip register ?

Any ideas ?

Technically it will work because many programs (including KS ROM) does something like btst #something,<some custom register>.
