Floppies vs whdload

I have registered Whdload, but prefer to use floppies, am I strange ?
Same goes for my C64, I prefer to have a stack of floppies than any mass storage device !

Floppies will one day wear out and become corrupt.... WHDLoad won't.
But that's the beauty and part of the retro experience that comes with it

Yeah, it`s the whole vetro vibe of using floppies I guess.
BTW, I`ve got tons of data at work on floppies 25-30 years old and never had a failure, but I`ve had lots of hard drive, CD/DVD and a fair few CF and SD card failures !

one disked games like warzone load quickly. an a500 without hd is sometimes better for a quick game than a big system taking ages to boot, no fan or hd noise. i think i can understand what you mean. not talking about corruption, prptections...

but for most games whdload rules (sensible soccer...)

I love using floppys, the sounds the drive makes, even the sound of my external drive kicking in with disk 2 etc.

However going through my recently aquired set of 200+ floppys i have encountered the "cannot read from sector x" error on at least 30 of them allready.

WHDLoad is a clear winner.

Not at all..
Playing directly from floppy gives a way smoother framerate.
I think the frameratedrops from WHDLoad is just sad.. Because WHDLoad is an amazing application, apart from this.

Just make the most of both, I don't fancy playing Point and Click adventure games from 10+ floppies. But I also don't like the slow down that WHDload gives on games like SWOS or Zool.

SWOS & Zool use chipmem for RAM expansion. In some cases with some boards, the mem is slower, and for some reason when the system is booted/mmu/etc... it can be much slower (hence the recurrent swos slowdown bug reports). The problem cannot be fixed (Bert knows better than me about that)

On the other hand, some games can be much faster, e.g. when expansion mem is relocated to real fastmem (check Chaos Engine CD32 or Nick Faldo's Golf CD32 or Body Blows AGA to see what I mean) or that caches disabling has been removed by whdload slave and cache bugs properly fixed.

Have to say... i like floppies too! *runs for cover*.... when i first got my New (old) A1200, i was using disks (brand new)... but then i went to get more from Amigakit, but they had sold out... i asked when they would get more

the reply was "probably never"

so i went on a hunt for new disks, found loads of used ones (of course), but i dont trust 2nd hand disks... found that i couldnt buy any

so i registered WhdLoad and have now only use disks for backups and my data

I'm a huge fan of floppies..
Especially for the older 1 or 2 disk games on my A1000...

That's nostalgia at it's best...

But, that didn't stop me from registering WHDLOAD either...

I really don't see "vs".. I like and will continue to use both...

There is no ceremony with WHDLoad.

There's that certain charm to flipping through tangible items in a disk box, then inserting said tangible item into a floppy drive with a mechanical clunk.

Same thing with vinyl records.. Very cumbersome shit with pops and hisses, but you can't dispute that there's a ceremony involved when listening to them. :-)

Nevertheless, I use WHDLoad and listen to digital music + watch films off my hard drive. That's just the way it is in 2011. :-)
