EPROM Experimentation
Hi Guys
I decided to see if I could read & program EPROMs myself before a commercial programmer would arrive if I purchased one. The clock has to stop now till payday but I still think the answer is yes! [ Show youtube player ] [ Show youtube player ] Cheers |

Wow, cool. Do you have schematics and the programming available?

Hi, neither are finished yet.. it just read the data out to LEDs.
Plus I'm not good with PCB CAD. It will also end up far more expensive than just buying a commercial programmer! |

Well, if it can do 27c400's with some modification it probably is cheaper than most programmers available. Plus, it's fun to acquire all parts, solder and get it to work that's priceless.

Now can you figure out how to erase them with just house-hold items? Need some kind of MacGyver erasing method.

Fish tank UV lights (the ones used for killing bacteria) is what's used in commercial erasers as well.

I already have that cheap arse eraser in the Kickstart thread. Only $20AU,
but I don’t think I’ll be needing to erase too many EPROMs. I figure there won’t be much difficulty writing to EPROM from file after reading to file. |

Where I’m at right now. Plus there is a little regulator board. Hasn’t caught fire yet.
Time for the third board which has SD card socket. Could have just used 8 bit mode and the boards would have half the crap on them |

That's slightly nuts. The minipro can be adapted to read Amiga ROMs:

First Amiga Kickstart written & verified last night whohooo
I think I made the time frame even with the down time. It took two write passes to verify, so still needs tweaking with timing, but I might do the ST Presto algorithm for fast programming yet just for fun. |

WoW, that sounds good. Can you tell me something about your setup? It looks like it can read from sd?

Hi Yes, well the videos in the OP start to explain it,
then there's one more on my channel not linked here, then I suppose there's one more to come as well now... Then next is about the CD32 debug board. Once it has a proper interface with buttons it should go together as a 3 layer slab, like the 2 layer assembly in the pic. At the moment I have to reprogram the microcontroller just to change a mode value... Read, Write, Verify & Blank Check, so it's not convenient to put it together while I still have to keep reprogramming the micro on the bottom board. It's stand alone yes. Can dump to SD Card, and write and verify from ROM file on SD Card... which also makes it a stand alone EPROM copier. EDIT,,, Spacecraft Last edited by xArtx; 09 April 2017 at 03:58. |
