Games you played over Xmas holidays (any system)

I can probably work out the ones on the VCS looking at releases, like Xmas 1980 was Space Invaders and whatever the big releases for 1981/82/83 were that I owned.

C64 I remember 1985 was Commando, 1986 was Gauntlet and 1987 was Bubble Bobble. I remember playing Summer Games II during the winter holidays too.

Can't really remember playing anything on the ST at Xmas time as I used it mostly for artwork not gaming and really can't remember Amiga either except I always played the foggy/snow levels of Lotus II when it was foggy or snowy outside my window lol

How about you?

I think it was around Xmas time I got the cover tape demo of Bubble Bobble for the C64, have to check what issue it came with.

I never had snowball Sunday mini-game on the C64 back then but I would have played that over Xmas.

I looked up 1989 and It Came From the Dessert is reviewed in 2 UK magazines that went on sale during December 1989 so definitely bought and played that all Xmas 1989.

edit: worked abroad summer 90-91, nothing interested me around Xmas 1991 period but around Xmas time 1992 Another World came out and I was definitely playing that

Well, there come a few to mind BUT;
I will never forget X-Mas 1994.

You see; SANTA brought me two Amiga games 1994
(those where on my Whislist)

The Fist was (don´t laught)
RISE OF THE freaking ROBOTS;
I mean, the Screenshots and design looked fantastic !!!
Magazines gave it 90+% The Hype was real, how could this be bad?

Well, it was cool until the fighing began. Something was wrong here
Where was the promised A.I. that learned how to fight against the player ?
; in fact, all the promises ? Why got this game so high praise from the Press

That game teached me a really important life lession that day.
Never buy into HYPE, amongs other things !!!

But the worst thing was, there was a Bug in that game where i
was unable to finish the game !!! (this version is still out there)
A patch disk came 2 weeks later.
(this was the first game where i even heard of the term "patch" )

The game is gameplaywise a total dud, BUT it teached me alot of valuable lessions
AND i know it sounds crazy, but because of that i have a softspot for it and it will
allways reminds me of Christmas 1994

The second game was Jaguar XJ220
Needless to say it saved Christmas 1994 for me.
(after that horrible experience with Rise of the Robots....
even unable to progress because of a BUG )

I played it the whole Holyday season, trying to finish the world tour.
That was so much fun !!

Later in that same Holiday season my best friend and me tried to do the same
(finsih the world tour) in Co-Op mode.

Memorys forever etched in my mind

Funny, how some games left an impression that you will never forget
and reminds you instandly of a certain time.

So, when i see Rise of the Robots & Jaguar XJ220 ; (or one of them)
i think and feel immediately Christmas 1994

hoo hoo hoo

I've played Pong, my first videogame ever, in the early '80s, that came on a Hanimex console one xmas, and I think it was xmas 1991 when I got an Amiga with Xenon 2 and Lotus 1.
I remember bending left and right on the sofa to second the cars turning.
Parasol Star, Legend of Valour, and Centurion were games I played on the following xmases.

Since then, I play almost only at xmas; in the recent years: Hidden Folks, a lot of master detective's series games that came in a bundle; the beautiful Disco Elysium in 2018.
But the recent best experience during the holidays was Gabriel Knight 1, in, 2019, I think; started the 26th, and finished it around the 1th Jan. I loved it!

This year, I'll think I'll play Stray.

I don't do modern games, the newest game I ever got any fun out of personally was NFS Most Wanted 2007 game on Xbox. That's also the last game I ever completed too and it is quite epic but maybe I just love M3s

I only ever got 4 games as Xmas presents, Cosmiads and VIC Panic for VIC-20 and Rescue on Fractalus and Ghostbusters on C64. After that it was just hideous jumpers etc lol as I was apparently too old to get 'toys' for Xmas

I try to fire up Turrican 2 every Christmas as it was the game I played when we unboxed the A500 back in the early 1990's as a kid. My family are all gone now, but the soundtrack still takes me back to that day. Played the new AGA version the other day, but the original is still the best.

I love the fact today you can run real hardware on a decent CRT but without all the hit and miss experience of loading 40 year old tapes and disks. It's a great time for retrogaming.

I don't have that many Speccy tape games but I have every Sinclair machine.
