Tried a different Mouse, but it is still the same. >
Choppy Mouse in some Games like Flight of the Amazon Queen.

I have a theorie that some games uses CPU/Software to move/check the mouse position.
I never seen a "mouse slowdown" on Amiga; it has hardware for it.
But Amazon Queen´s & Co. Mouse pointer is different, depending on the setup.

That Screams CPU/Software Mouse Solution, dosent it ?

Daaaaym! I didn't think AMOS was capable of such a superb and polished game. Even though it is my favourite programming language and I love it despite all its faults

What is the PC version made in then,PC AMOS?

This could explain the occasional slowdowns. I will test it on different configs when I get the time.

Thank you

PS: Now i am curious.
How many Games did not use the Amiga Custom Chips/CIA for a real hardware driven Mouse ?

I can remember reading a interview about Lemmings back in the day and Dave Jones (i think) said something like "The Amiga Version featuring a full frame hardware driven Mouse"
the other are software based and half frames. (or less)

It isn't jerky, just lags a bit if you move the mouse too quickly as already mentioned!

most games use one or several combined sprites for mouse pointer.

nothing to do with CIA, it's sprite hardware (Denise) that does the work.

The alternative is a blitter object, that adds more work to the blitter. Sprite is the best solution if the point is not wider than 16 pixels (which is often the case). And you can combine several sprites to create a bigger sprite.

Interesting Stuff, really ! . Thank you jodt .

So, if i understandt correctly ( i am just a stupid smurf, after all )

If Denise is used, the Mouse Pointer is fullspeed (like Lemmins for example) and will not be slowed down or affected by CPU usage n stuff.

if a Blitter Solution is used , it can be affected by CPU "busyness" ?
(Like in Carribean Disaster for example ... everytime when the CPU is calculating/planning the Opponents moves on the Island map, the Mouse pointer gets affected in its "smoothness" )

Is that right ?

Denise Pointer = Fullspeed , no matter what.
Blitter Pointer = Can get affected by "busyness" like Cpu usage and such.

THERE ARE MORE !!!!

I did some intense testing with all kinds of setups and i found a few more games and apps that have absolute crazy jerky mouse movement.

For example.

MAG
by Greenwood. http://hol.abime.net/4013

As soon as the music starts the mouse movement gets very jerky.

(you can fix this in WinUAE with the CPU Setting "Fastest possible" but that is cheating !!!)

If WinUAE is turned to "cycle-exact" or use a real Amiga then the mouse movement is very jerky

Why does this happend ?
I guess some games use a cpu/software mouse driver or something... very odd.

Amiga had hardware for full frame mouse movent that dosent slowed down by cpu usage.

Take Lemmings for example. If you play lemmings on an very slow amiga and blow up all the lemmings at the same time, the game slows down because of the Cpu usage, But the mouse is still full speed !

The crazy thing is that i thought my Amiga had some sort of problem, but the MAG and Amazon Queen test result is the same on all Emulators and settings.

No matter what kickstart, chipset, memory or workbench version.

Really odd stuff.

The mouse pointer in digibooster 1.7 is way to fast and cant be changed.
Movement gets also jerky when a tune is played

What the ...

It can't be as bad as Star Trek: The 25th Anniversary! Really slow and laggy mouse pointer in this game. No excuse for this...

What about disabling vsync? Maybe you're using triple-buffering on 25/50Hz or something.
Edit: On the other hand, you say it happens on original hardware as well...

When watching your videos it looks like your mouse pointer (sometimes) is somewhat constrained to 45°. Especially the first and the last video. How could you achieve (digitally perfect) straight x-movements at all in sysanalyzer? That's usually impossible.

Another culprit could be your display. There might be some "intelligent" mode that enables/disables automatically depending on content (causing huge lag). Try to use a 'gaming' or 'lag-free' mode (if available).

Thats right !! i had almmost forgotten this one. (dont have Aga nowdays)
But i remember this one from back in the day. It did stand out !! ; was 100% Cpu bound.
Even with my Blizzard 1230-50 Mhz it was anything else but a smooth mousemovent

@NoX1911

Nope, dosent change a thing. Same happends on real hardware.

That thing with sysanalyzer ; i dont know. maybe luck ? i will try that again sometime and post back

Maybe your mouse is a cheap 3rd party mouse that is a technical disaster. A 2nd one would lead to the same result if being of the same model or quality. That 'digitally' moving is really weird like if you would use arrow keys to move.

I did another video ; not too hard for making a straight X or Y movement (and filming at the same time)

Mouse is optical, same happends with an Amiga Tec Ball Mouse. (on my A600 Furia Setup)
Even in emulation its the same. I dont know what you are mean by 'digitally' movement ?

This reminds me of cleaning ball mice back in the days. Maybe your mouse sensor is having problems with your table/ground plate.

Why do you think that ? like i said, it depends on the game/app.

Just try Flight of the Amazon Queen (Amiga DOS native installed)
and tell me how smooth youre mouse pointer moves hehe

Sorry. i've meant a strict/straight directional moving like a 'keyboard emulated mouse' like when you press 'right arrow' the mouse pointer moves 'digitally' to the right without moving even one pixel up and down. This theoretically might happen with a real mouse as well if it has very low resolution (dpi) or there is some kind of deadzone.

I will do a video with FOTAQ on WinUAE in a minute.
