Exodus: The Last War - cdda problem
Hello,
I have installed the full version of Exodus: The Last War on HDF. Now my problem is to find the correct cdda device. Bellow I have attached a screenshot from the setup dialog box. On the Internet I found some information about the device uaescsi.dev which is recommended. But in the selection box it is not listed. Can I use one from the other devices that are listed? And how can I get the correct device number for the mounted CD-Rom? I'm using the emulator WinUAE 4.9.0 x64 with BetterWB 4.3 and AmigaOS 3.1. Thank you in advance! Condor-2-4-2 |

is uaescsi.device enabled in WinUAE Expansions page? It can't be found in DEVS:, manually type it on cdda device field.

Hello Aardvark,
on the expansion settings "uaescsi.device" is marked as you can see in the screenshot bellow. I also typed "uaescsi.device" for cdda device in the games setup dialog box. But when I start the game, the message "!Unable open cdda device or not find disk Exodus" pops up. Is there any other solution? |

Not sure then, maybe because you seem to have old game version. Mine shows v2.0, so there should be a patch out somewhere.

Are you able to use some other CDDA software with those device details to play the audio tracks?
To verify the device details are correct, you can use FindDevice from the IDEFix97 package. This should list your CD-ROM drive and its unit number under uaescsi.device. If your drive doesn't show up there, then Exodus won't be able to access it either. |

Today I upgraded my AmigaOS3.1 to 3.9. Now the cdda device is working and I'm able to run Exodus in Version 1.2. But only in the standard screen modes. RTG mode for this version doesn't work for me.
The last thing I could not get to work are the updated versions (2.0 and 2.1). If I start an updated game, it crashes and WinUAE closes immidiatly. (System specs: A4000; 68040; AmigaOS3.9-BB3&4; KS ROM v3.1 (A4000) rev 40.68 (512k); WinUAE 4.9.0 x64) |

DamienD asked me to post this for you Condor-2-4-2 ;-)
For any AmigaCD games do the following: ... Under "CD & Hard drives", mount the image and tick "CDFS automount CD/DVD drives": When asked after installation for the CD drive and unit, set the following: ... uaescsi.device [make sure it's lowercase] ... 0 |

Hello vulture,
thank you for your advice. I did it as you described and under OS3.9 I got it finally to work. Greetings, Condor-2-4-2 |

These settings are used to automatically mount the CD without using the Mountlist (CD0). the checkbox on uaescsi.devi should be added when you want to mount a CD from AmigaOS using the classic CD0 mountlist and the required software. With some software it is also possible to manage the Audio session of a CD, AsimCDFS for example supports many CD formats such as Kodak CDs, MAC native CDs and more, I attach Screenshot where AsimCDFS shows also the Audio session on the Exodus CD. I'm having the same issue as Condor: when I try to start Exodus, I get the error message:
"!Unable open cdda device or not find disk Exodus" I'm using an A4000 Turbo with Amiga OS 3.1 emulated via FS-UAE. I have tried to find out what my CDDA device is, but no luck. Other threads I found suggested cd.device, asim_atapi.device, or atapi.device, but none of these work for me. How do I determine what device I'm supposed to use? Why doesn't the game do that automatically; I already installed it via CD. |

Okay, I found the device name and unit number.
However, I can't enter that information into the setup utility. It simply won't be saved. |
