Nice. I did some retro browser videos before, but you went even further by providing versions of the websites from the period and even original speed and resolutions. Real oldschool experience.
Congrats, awesome job. |

Oh, yes I must have visited this one a few times. I remember the layout! If memory servers it was probably after 2000, during the Back2Roots era. |

Yes, just after 2000, when people still were not clear on legality of emulation. I remember first time opening that site...

This is really nice, but as someone who never went online with their Amiga and wasn't exposed to the WWW until I'd switched to a PC in the mid 90s, I'd be interested in seeing a memorial of old emulation/archive oriented sites from back then that aren't around any more.
I can't remember the names of any of the sites that used to crop up when I typed "amiga emulation" or "download Amiga games" into Altavista or Ask Jeeves on Netscape/I.E in those days. But I remember there were a lot of sites that hosted little collections of ADF images, or were set up as personal shrines to various games or just general love of the Amiga. There was one site in particular that was sort of like a portal site, to various other game sites (ROM sites I guess they would be classified as now) Pretty sure this was before the days of abime.net but maybe it could have been a very early prototype? I was so happy when I found those sites and realised it was possible to turn my PC into an Amiga, in the same way I'd already turned it into a Spectrum. Edit: Oh, and then this link popped up in the Similar Threads suggestions |

A few that I can remember from those days are Back2Roots (included in the video), Amiga Sector 1 and Amiga Mania. I'm already working on more videos on this to include the early 2000 sites etc. but it is a very time consuming process. Reconstructing the sites, recording and editing this video took me nearly 2 months and I had to leave out many good ones because it was originally over 2 hours long! The Internet experience started with the Amiga for me, because I was Amiga-only until 2000. When I had to get a PC I still used/expanded the Amiga etc but even though I wasn't too much into emulation I did visit the emulation sites, downloaded ADFs and everything! P.S. Concerning Spectrum emulators, I used to have one on the PC which could emulate various 8bit machines but I can't remember the name. I do remember that the author looked a lot like a music composer called Yannis though! |

Is it wrong that I'm starting to really like some of those old website aesthetics?
I appreciate the functionality of modern sites, especially with database backends. But there is something about hamfisted html that brings out a personal touch. |

Interesting thread !
I remember getting started with amiga emulation back then. Huh, trying to get stable emulation with UAE and winfellow on my 486DX2-66 ( or did I have an AMD K5 already ?!).. The first site I could download adf images was called Warlocks adf archive. And yes back2roots does ring a bell. Cheers |

Nothing wrong with nostalgia. That's what it's all about! @CBMretrofan I think I've visited Warlock's. I vaguely remember that name. Something like Warlock's Domain, or Realm? @oldskool Thanks, glad you liked it! With regard to the music I was never a fan of techno, but when it comes to the Amiga I can make exceptions! |
