Ms Pacman conversion WIP

After Pacman 500, new conversion in progress

[ Show youtube player ]

Sounds are still the Pacman ones, no moving bonuses, no intro sequence.

awesome!! Real nice work. You've probably realised by now that re-using asm routines has a lot of benefits in that you get faster and faster at building games.

Funnily enough I saw people asking on Facebook exactly when Ms Pacman was going to come now that you'd done a perfect port of regular Pacman.

Excellent work

yep. reusing (and tweaking) asm routines is as far as you can go to reuse your "engine".

anything more generic ends up more complex and less performant.

Here with a "smart" choice of color palette, I'm using the 2 first planes for the maze, and the 2 other planes (this is a 16 color game) to draw mrs pacman, which avoids the hassle of "cookie cut" shit and also to redraw the dots.

But there's this damn moving bonus where I'll have to go save/full cookie cut draw/restore since colors are scattered around the palette.

not possible to use sprites for bonuses. a sprite is max 3 colors. i know you can combine them but ghosts already use 4 sprites and the whole sprite palette.

a more advanced video with intro sequence. Sound is shifted (damn video capture in winuae does that sometimes) but you get the idea

source (WIP): https://github.com/jotd666/mspacman500.git

if someone wants to help with the music (intermission) I have the scores. Had a tough time creating something that sounds right, and in .mod format...

If you are able to pack both pacman and ms pacman on 1 disk/adf then you are well on the way to having the namco museum ported

Saimon69 helped me out with a mod, very talented and does a lot of music for PD/commercial projects.

yes, it would probably fit on a disc but packing the executable increases the memory needed to run it. And Namco museum contains a lot more! (Galaga, Galaxian, Dig Dug 2 ...)

Saimon69 already made the music for Bagman (another port of mine). In the case of Mspacman he doesn't seem interested but someone else proposed their help so all good

no problem. That's your life, you have noticed that I didn't insist. I turned down interesting projects too, because I knew I wouldn't have the time to do them.
