EAB/Lemon Super League 2009: Round 12 - Super Cars II

Starts: 00:01 November 15
Finishes: 23:59 December 5

Rules

Post screenshots of your scores in this thread, and write your score underneath. You can enter as many times as you like within the round's time frame.

We will play all three difficulty levels (Easy, Medium and Hard) and all three scores will be added up. Also make sure the Communication Screens are set to ON.

No cheating of any kind (including score leeching) - this includes save states. No continues/passwords allowed. If you suspect a contestant of cheating then don't post it in public (anyone who does so will have their posts edited or deleted) - please PM me, Biscuit or mihcael and we will investigate it. If we find anyone guilty of cheating then they will be banned for the entire season.

Please only post your score on either the EAB or Lemon forums. If you have already played this year you have to post your score on the same forum for the whole season. If you are new, the one you post on first will be your team for the whole season. However you are welcome to discuss the compo, game etc. on the other forum if you wish.

This is the last round of the season - so make it a good one, eh?

Remember, anyone can join in at any time. Have fun and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

The biggest problem is that sometimes you have to deal with the driving licence test. If you get lucky you can earn 5 extra points. If you fail, you will lose 5 points. It is random so in one game you will have it, while in another one you won't. In our competition there might be someone who will win on seven tracks (7x5=35 points) but he will not have the test. Another person can be runner-up on four tracks (4x4=16 points) and winner in three (3x5=15 points). Of course the second person is worse but if he gets lucky and is going to have the test, he will get 5 extra points and in total will have 36 A bit unfair...

Same for me, this quiz is a truly torment
I lose a lot of points and money.

Well, if people play this game enough, then everyone will see the test plenty of times.

They are not so difficult. The answers are more less logical and some you can easily figure out.

I don't know if it's WinUAE but i find the controls respond very poorly, there is a big contrast in comparison to ATR. I must repair my joystick to see if the same thing with a real Amiga !

I can imagine that. Also keep in mind this is a British game - thus some of the questions of the old man need you to think what would be correct when you're driving on the left side (e.g. "where do you have to position in a roundabout if you wanna go straight ahead" or "before a blind left curve where should you position yourself")...

Another bad thing about the test is that some of the answers are messed up. I tested it awhile and some questions will have a different answer depending on the difficulty. For example on Easy one answer may be "Car" and it will always be Car for that specific question on easy, but the exact same question with same answer list on hard/medium the answer will be "Train"
There seemed to be a least 4 questions like that and I find it unlikely that it was meant to be like that since some of the questions ask for an exact measurement. The PSI tyre pressure is one question that this happens with unless i've always had faulty roms. From memory also the one at the train crossing and mabe the one about a car backing out are like this.

Also i'm not sure if it only affects the driving intructor's questions, he's just the only one i've paid much attention to.

Hints for hard level: sell 1 engine after track 1 so you have "engine level 1" on track 2. You can more easily beat hard tracks 2-4 with this weaker engine (just hold down fire all the time - you don't have to slow down for the jumps on track 2 and 4).
After track 4 you can then upgrade to engine level 3.

Also only buy armor lvl3 ASAP (after track 1) and ram lvl3 and don't waste any weapons before track 6. By smart trading you should mostly have a small fortune after track 5. Now buy as many homing missiles as you can get and blast your way through the final tracks.

Btw., if someone didn't know this yet: you can jump over trains with nitro...

Thats completely wrong. There is never a neutral answer only 2 wrong and 1 right and only selecting the correct answer will let you go to the next. That can easily be tested with save states. And the majority of the answers remain constant to the question throughout the difficulty except the few i mentioned.

For hard mode I always liked 2x engine. 3x engine is possible but too risky. Also the 2nd to last level is pure luck since the CPU cheat and can skip a whole area if they hit the train. Hell they can skip any area in the game if they get pushed to in to it. I've never mananged to jump a train with the nitro, I've never tried that hard but no matter when i activate it I crash and burn.
