FS-UAE with Linux

I was intrigued by the bare XP install here which boots into Amiga OS with no signs of Windows...

http://wowohl.de/Amiga_XP_x86.pdf

What about same with FS-UAE and Linux? Anyone recommend a flavour of Linux that would
(a) have modern(ish) hardware support
(b) be able to remove ALL boot messages/splash screens etc
(c) minimal space requirements
(d) fast to boot

It is definitely possible.

a) you have to choose modernish distro which will support modernish hw (that's obvious)

b) Kernel boot message can be suppressed by "quite" option, system boot messages can be suppressed via custom plymouth theme (I'm not very experienced in bootsplash anyway). Also, there is small possibility to get rid of vendor logos during self-test, uless you have an open bios or something.

c) well, I have raspberry pi with 8GB sd card which still have like 3GB available, so it is up to you, what things are you going to install on either linux and amiga side

d) any non-bloated distro will do so. Possible choices are vast. From Ubuntu (preferably server/minimal version) through Debian (same as Ubuntu), Arch (which is minimal by default, but sometimes can be a pain) and… Gentoo. Yes, Gentoo, since it is minimal by definition and allows you to tweak entire installation for only those things which you need to run FS-UAE - but, on the other hand, you have to know how to do that . On the distant side are self-crafted distros, but there still would be a pain to maintain such beast.

I think buildroot / busybox is the real way to do it.
I have tried the linux distro booting into Fs-uae approach recently but they all took too long to get there even stripping the init.d folder to a bare minimum and running it at runlevel 3, single user mode.

I am currently playing with the 64bit build of Openelec to run Fs-uae via ssh. With some additional Qt libraries copied over it worked fine on my target system an A8-6600k using on board everything.

Not sure this is the Amithlon replacement I'm looking for, but it was a lot nicer to use than my A1200 + memory starved ACA1221ec and no RTG.

If I get anywhere with buildroot I will post up a build with Aros68k or at least my notes on how to do it.

Would be interested to hear if anyone else has tried this route?

Not tried your approach... no idea how to really.. I have been playing with VMs on my unRAID box and Ubuntu Budgie boots really quick... So might do me but would be really interested to see EITHER of the approaches you suggested if they come to pass... Please do share how U get on!
