EAB High Score Table
How about EAB includes a high score table section especially for submitting Amiga only scores?
Then we could all show off our gaming prowess in the top tens and also try to out do each other at games. Of course these scores would have to be verified somehow and only accepted as genuine if the mods agree. |

I'd agree to it. It'd be very tricky to ensure verification though, after all some of us don't use emulators so don't have the luxury of save states or easy screen grabs (although these could be doctored anyway)

Unfortunately it would only be available to emu users but I think theres enough to justify it (after all its just a bit of fun).
Maybe cheating could be avoided by uploading a small WinUAE .avi to a ftp? Just one idea. Im sure with all the brains here at EAB someone can think of a way around this hurdle. |

And this is why I think its a bad idea. I prefer a real amiga with a real amiga joystick, not a crappy pc "piece of shit" joystick. But then again I think I would be crap compared 2 some of the gaming-sharks.....

I think this topic have been up and about a couple of times. Each time the conclusion has been that it's too hard to prevent cheating. I think the best solution yet was that there'd be made a save file for submission to be verified. Still hard to see if there was a cheat involved.

What about the honour system? Seems most of the people on here arent the type to cheat to me. My challenge thread with Turrican 2 worked well using this method.
Surely there must be a way. |

Just to be the pain in the buttock...
I don't believe in a honor-system, if I miss 100 point for making it to the topscore, wich fx Fisken had, I could easily cheat just a little, so I could "beat" him (like danes are better than Swedes kind of attitude) |

Oh for fock's sake, this is ridiculous! I don't care because I won't participate anyway, but serious gamers DON'T cheat unless you're stuck and just HAVE to see the ending sequence. And if somebody cheated so what? They'll have to live with the guilt I suppose. What's the point? You certainly won't get rich if you win... Real men don't cheat!!!!!!!
...but perhaps Dizzy does...? |

I do believe the honour system would work because I think that like me most people arent sad enough to cheat. If people had wanted to cheat in the Turrican challenge thread then they could have, but no, they decided that (cant remember who it was now) was the better Turrican player and he won that particular compo.
If you have to cheat to win something so trivial (in the grand scheme of things), then I think thats pretty pathetic and such a person really should get out more. I honestly dont think any of the long term members here are that petty. |

I think it's a nice idea, and the honour system should work.
In the shmups.com forum they have a hi-score forum working for ages, and no cheaters there, and everyone is upon honour system there. Even now there's a competition running with a PRIZE for the 1st place, still there's no sign of cheating. I say that because I was in 1st place so far, but I had to withdrawn because of some personal problems. I wasn't cheating, and if someone there was cheating, he would be in top, not me. The guys there are good chaps, and we here are good chaps too. If even with PRIZES we didn't cheat there, I doubt that someone would cheat here, just for the fun. |

If the honour system works over at shmups then I know it could work here.
I suppose real Amiga users could just a digicam to submit entries, if they have one. How I think it would work is maybe we could have a poll to decide which games are initially included. Only the big names from most genres at first, but then adding games if the demand for them is high enough. |
