Lightbulb Unofficial AIBB v6.7 patch

Unofficial AIBB Version 6.7 patch
© SpeedGeek 2021

INTRODUCTION:
This an update to the previous AIBB v6.6 patch. It has some
new code to adjust the CPU speed results on 68060 systems.
It has been tested at CPU speeds from 50-80 MHz.

FEATURES:
- New code adjusts CPU speed results on 68060 systems
- Runs all original AIBB code on 60000-68040 systems
- 100% PC relative Assembler code
- Patched executable is only 44 bytes larger than v6.6
- Updates version to 6.7

REQUIREMENTS:
- Amiga with 68060 CPU
- AIBB v6.6 "Bug Fix" version
- SAS spatch tool

WARNINGS:
This patch does NOT update AIBB to fully support the
68060 CPU in the way a benchmark program written
specifically for that purpose would do. It does NOT
functionally affect MOST of the limitations of the original
AIBB code except for allowing it to run on 68060 systems.

NOTES:
The new 68060 CPU speed adjust code is NOT expected to be
accurate on all possible systems and configurations. The
speed adjust code will only function with a 68060.library
installed, but AIBB will still function without it.*

*The above comment was intended for 68060 users. Vampire
68080 users can simply set the execbase 68060 Attn_Flag if
they want to use the speed adjustment code.

UPDATE:
This update is required to support the v6.6 bug fix version.
However, this update does NOT fix this bug. It simply
applies the v6.7 update to the bug fix version. There is no
AIBB version change with this update. The only change is in
the name of the patch file which creates this version.

I think you should replace the red bar with either a picture of a trophy or Princess Peaches (maybe for revision 6.7.1)

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I don't think my question deserves a separate thread.

@SpeedGeek, are you the "mantainer" of AIBB? I ask because a found an odd problem:

Every time I try to open it, I get a message saying it cannot find internal font. Fact is I replaced default Topaz font used by WB on its icons, and with SnoopDOS I found AIBB tries to open AIBB.font, but it doesn't matter if I clone Topaz font as AIBB (even after a FixFonts), no matter if I edit internal font name… And AIBB package does not contain an AIBB.font.

If I change custom font back to default Topaz one, it works again, but I guess it should not matter what font do I use in WB customization if AIBB can load the font it needs. Am I doing anything wrong, or is it something related to AIBB internals, some sort of "hardcoded" thing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Saluditos,

Ferrán.

@Ferry

No, sorry I am not the maintainer.

I'm guessing the AIBB.font is internal and probably requested when the default system font is not available or the AIBB.prefs file is missing (It's usually located in the s: directory). Please remember AIBB is really old Software so you should not even attempt to change the default font.

Also, some of the hacked versions found on other sites are not the original distribution version.

Thanks for your answer. Will try some other things I have in mind, let's see if any of them do work, hehe

Can someone share a patched 6.7 file? I cannot for the life of me get the patches to work, Going from original 6.5 on Aminet to 6.6 tells me incorrect version. Also tried an 060 patch in the threads and tired that first and no luck there either, same incorrect version.

You have 2 options: RTFM the 6.6 patch documentation or search for a site hosting an already patched version. Someone uploaded an already patched version in "The Zone" a few years ago but it's certainly gone by now.

** NEWS UPDATE **

EDIT:
Sorry, users who downloaded the patch before May 27, 2021
got a buggy version of the patch.

@SpeedGeek Where can I get the AIBB version that can be patched with this patch file? I have tried the 6.6 from the GRANDIS FTP mentioned above, but I'm only getting:

This patch can not be applied to it
Patch failed, File out not changed

There are 2 links posted on the AIBB v6.6 patch thread. However, it appears the amiga.resource.cx link is not working at the moment:

https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=85829

P.S. As long as you keep a backup copy of the original v6.5 executable, you should always be able to use my update patches.

I can use AIBBV66_PATCH.LHA to patch one of the binaries from AIBB060.zip archive ( http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=1137296&postcount=5 ), but the resulting 6.6 binary can't be patched by the AIBBV67_PATCH.LHA (in fact, AIBB v6.6 uploaded by someone to the zone can't be patched by it too).

The patch 6.7 readme mentions something about AIBB v6.6 "Bug Fix" version - do I need one more patch in the mean time?

I'm sorry, but I have at least 3 versions of AIBB v6.5, I suppose there is more than one v6.6, and if I understand correctly the v6.7 also has two versions (one patch already taken down). I didn't follow the development, and now I'm completely lost.

What's more, I can't use the DMS with AIBB v6.5 from the zone, as it is password-protected.

You get the 6.5 of Falcon install disk from here: http://web.archive.org/web/202010292....cx/exp/falcon

OK, found the problem - the 6.6 patch was changed too since I downloaded it some time ago (and the 6.6 available in the Zone is not the current 6.6).

Damn, there are too many indistinguishable AIBB and patch versions floating around :/

Yeah; the precise versions and -URL source- of each file (at least AIBB 6.5, but also Spatch wouldn't hurt either) need to be spelled out for new users not familiar with all this.
