Black Dawn II Crash

Hello,

Black Dawn II, an rpg-game from 1994, crashes constantly after playing a while. I tested both the shareware and the full version of the game in WinUAE 3.6.1 64bit with the same issue. I got the following error message:

Has anyone the same problem with this game under WinUAE? I have attached my actual configuration file. I also tested the game on A1200 with different RAM settings but without success.

Thanks for your reply.

Well, if the guru is unpredictable and without a savestate is a bit difficult to fix (and no, i've not played the game).
But i've applied quickly and blindly the same patch as "Willy's Weirdy Nightmare" (crash is very very similar and this is an AMOS game..)

Just a tentative, fixed ADF into The Zone!
Please test.

Hallo ross,

thank you for your adf-file! With KS3.0 A1200 it works now without system crash :-)

Best regards,

With apologies for the necro post, I am part of the team working on the new Black Dawn game and I can’t play the old ones because they all crash... can you share what the fix is, please? I can then make sure the coder makes the new game work properly under UAE

I didn't even remember fixing this game, so I had to check what I had done

In the first exe hunk there is an odd aligned pointer to string "Icons".
Can be a problem in AMOS linker because the near strings regards default libraries init (and more AMOS executables suffer of this).

Fortunately there is some spare space to realign the string.
It's enough then to fix the access and everything works as it should.

Thanks, I have no idea how to fix that on my executables but will ask coder to bear in mind if the new one also crashes under UAE

I'm about to release a whdload slave of this game. Does someone still has the "original" unpatched version? so I can support it

(my disk version has a "f ross" in the name)

thanks. Too bad those aren't easy to find. EAB server is cool (well, it's down since 72 hours..) but it's not like TOSEC, or official IPF.

What did you use to repack the executable BTW? cranker? is there a way to unpack since xfddecrunch doesn't work?

(it's cranker definitely, I don't think they provide a way to unpack but I found the shifted "Icons" string & matching LEA so it's fine, I suppose that the fix is required only for 68000/68010 machines but I fail to see why it would fail on 68020+... 80000003 is reading at odd address, that 68020+ supports)

install pushed to whdload page

@jotd: Yay! You're working on the other games in the series as well, right?

not at the moment. I did that one because save didn't work with generic kickstart slave.
