Seems to be running at about 2fps and most object seem to have about 3 frames. I reckon I could write a game better than this in Blitz and I have never really coded a game.

Being a fan of the Contra series this particular episode was painful to watch, they really did an extremely poor job with this port.

But in some way I'm also glad they did, because otherwise we wouldn't have this wonderful episode

I remember finding this with mixed feelings: first surprise (there is a contra for Amiga?) then denial (is not that bad) and at the end full disappointment (what a sh177y conversion!!!)

The game is indeed - as you so well put it - whack, but I think Konami is treated a bit unfairly here. It's Distinctive Software Inc (DSI) that should get the heat. They're the ones that commissioned this lump of dung from those wretched programmers. Konami's crime was merely selling the rights to the game to DSI.

Konami was the worldwide publisher for this game. I would assume they had some kind of quality assurance before releasing a game. Guess this was only for console games then. Japanese game companies weren't interested in porting their games to homecomputers like the Amiga. So they outsourced the ports to European/US developers and that's what we got. Well, not all the time but mostly.

ZEUSDAZ, I haven't watched that yet but that cannot possibly beat your "Bad Cat" video. Hilarious that one.

You may play Warzone instead. That's a much better game. EDIT: seen the video, yeah it sucks, in house conversions are supposed to be better... Maybe they didn't have access to the arcade machine, or ... an amiga

Bad Cat is indeed a terrible game. I remember thinking how apt it was that it has the word "bad" in the title.

I actually paid real money for a copy of this back in the early 90's. You might imagine how I felt. But as I did have a bonafide copy of the game I also had the game manual, which actually answers a lot of the questions about how to actually play the game that you seemed to be having.

And many of your "what am I supposed to be doing?" moments in the video made me feel like yelling at the monitor "Read The Fucking Manual!" Still, a good game does not require any more than the most cursory glance at the documentation. And Bad Cat is clearly not a good game, even if you do know what you're supposed to be doing.

And the waggling method the game uses for travelling on the beach ball or garbage can is just plain broken, making the third level almost completely impossible to finish.

Have you tried "Circus Games?" yet, that one gets a full 100 shits from me, it's even worse than Bad Cat and I'd be surprised if you could score anything without reading up on the controls.

Do the physics of the game work? If the graphics were redone, would it work?

As someone who has played this a fair amount I would say it would take more than a new coat of paint to bring this game up to code.

Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with the game physics themselves, more with the overall concept. And the controls really suck, especially any parts that require you to do the back and forth motion.
