Super League 2022: Round 13 - Lollypop & Super Tennis Champs

Two more games that are new to the competition and not very well known. This round lasts four weeks, which means the voting thread for round 14 will start next weekend.

Lollypop [lemon] [hol]
Quietly released on Amiga in 1995 from Danish developers Brain Bug. You play as Lolly the toy doll on a quest for sweets. To complete a level you must find all four pieces of the picture puzzle before the boss will come out. Use autofire in the options if you like. May have support for gamepad and second button.
PUSH DOWN = duck and shows the area below
RETURN = Enter a doorway
SPACE = Take a photo. It destroys all enemies on screen. Also gives you bonus points based on how many enemies you killed.

Super Tennis Champs [lemon] [hol]
Another late arrival for Amiga in 1995, that garnered very good review scores. There are 16 characters each with their own pros and cons on the court. Try them out to find the best match for you. See below for our scoring system.

Round Ends: 23:59 (UK Time) on Saturday 12th November 2022

Rules:
  • Get the best score you can, during this round.
  • Post screenshots of your score in this thread, and write the score nearby.

  • Finish Lollypop and post a screenshot of the end for the completion star.
  • Full rules and info are HERE.

Played both games a while, and here's my best scores from today.
Hopefully counted right Super Tennis Champs score

Lollypop

65,500

Super Tennis Champs

38+40+38 = 116

Hard:
mac - roger 6-2, 6-1
((2 + 2 - 0) * 4) + (13 + 12 - 3) = 16 + 22 = 38

Grass:
mac - doogie 6-0, 6-1
((2 + 2 - 0) * 4) + (13 + 12 - 1) = 16 + 24 = 40

Clay:
mac - henri 6-1, 6-2
((2 + 2 - 0) * 4) + (13 + 12 - 3) = 16 + 22 = 38

Got quite fast black screen after taking picture of Lollypop:

139,200

Super Tennis Champs:

Played slightly better against Roger, but still no 6-0,6-0.
Challenged Chuck instead of Henri on Clay, but no 6-0,6-0 there either.

39+40+40 = 119

hard:
mac - roger 6-1, 6-1
((2 + 2 - 0) * 4) + (13 + 12 - 2) = 16 + 23 = 39

grass:
mac - doogie 6-0, 6-1
((2 + 2 - 0) * 4) + (13 + 12 - 1) = 16 + 24 = 40

clay:
mac - chuck 6-1, 6-0
((2 + 2 - 0) * 4) + (13 + 12 - 1) = 16 + 24 = 40

Is it crashing for you too?

And great scores on the tennis, I've found that quite hard.

I played Lollypop quickly a week ago and on those attempts didn't encounter crashes.
But now when playing further, over half of attempts end in crash. I'm playing whdload-installed version with Turbo Chameleon 64's Minimig-core. Setup is practically accelerated A1200, so maybe I'll have to try setup which is closer to Amiga 500.
And thanks, my little brothers always won me on Super Tennis Champs and got a lot practice back then Have been trying to get those 6-0,6-0 -scores, but I always end up losing game or two.

Reached castle, and this time no crash, although still used (nervously) same A1200-settings as before

No one has found a reliable config yet for Lollypop. The crashes sound a bit random. I'm gonna get into it this weekend and see how it goes.

Also, those helpful Lemoners spotted a problem with the Tennis scoring and provided a fix.

Please use this from now on:
((2 + won sets - lost sets) * 10) + (13 + won games - lost games)

It's the x10 bit that's changed. I've updated the scores on the board.

I tried a standard A1200 in FS-UAE and got a crash near the end of level 3. This was the most recent screenshot I had. Logging it here and I'll try something else next time.

I think we made some progress with the Lollypop crashes, or at least, I think we found a config which always works, see here:

Welcome to the competition kremiso. Well done on the completion.

It's a shame about the bugs but glad to see people are getting through Lollypop anyhow. For anyone wondering, the ipf versions in the link above using A1200 might work better.

thanks, i am now good with this one cause indeed the amount of tests

it does require a specific WinUAE setting, i think it should be very problematic to be completed on real hardware
---

some hints for the challenge here :

memorize the level 5 (castle) map is the harder part of the game imo, once you know exactly where to go on that level, all the rest is quite easy;
the game is a bit easier played with an ECS config, there are less enemies on screen, so also some bossfights;
on the last level, just before the last boss challenge, there is a 'safe' zone when you can just stay and level up the score, just continuously killing the infinite 'chef-enemies'; you can freely spent all the remained lives there, considering that the last boss is easy imo to be defeated;
take with you just the last life for the final fight (or maybe two if the first time lol)

Well, finally got those 6-0, 6-0 -results. Took about 3 hours and lots of loud swearing. Sorry neighbours Played against Henri again, felt a bit easier than Chuck, whose serves are good.

Super Tennis Champs:

65+65+65 = 195

hard:
mac - roger 6-0, 6-0
((2 + 2 - 0) * 10) + (13 + 12 - 0) = 40 + 25 = 65

grass:
mac - doogie 6-0, 6-0
((2 + 2 - 0) * 10) + (13 + 12 - 0) = 40 + 25 = 65

clay:
mac - henri 6-0, 6-0
((2 + 2 - 0) * 10) + (13 + 12 - 0) = 40 + 25 = 65

Welcome Kremiso and thanks for testing Lollypop I installed to HD from those ipf-diskimages, instead of using WHDLoad. But at least on my setup (Minimig-core / A1200-settings) at first go it crashed in the start of level 3. But good to know that with WinUAE it doesn't crash at least that often.

Lollypop:

Was a bit lost in the castle. And then on next two attempts, game crashed using updated WHDLoad beta-slave.

hope CFou! will reach to completely fix that, expecially the very annoying randomly crash thing

atm, imo the most stable config to play this is emulating the floppy drives;
then the floppy installed, and as last for now the whdload one

well, ok emulating the floppies you'll need at least to swap also with the disk 5 after stage 6, ie using all the 4 drives;
the disk 5 is a fake empty disk, it does contain not just the install, but also some gamedata

here (WinUAE), i needed to 'untick' the perfect cycle option, or the game could crash randomly on stage 6, or ALWAYS during the same stage bossfight;
after that change never encountered a crash anymore, so far
btw the game already worked flawless until stage 6, with just the 100% compatible drives
game completed 3 times now

i found a good game, finally not a frustrating one

hope it can help you

The ipfs are definitely more stable. Small improvement to my score.

I managed to win 1 game in Super Tennis Champs which I consider a massive victory as I am rubbish at it. Just not quick enough yet. But it's easy league points at the moment for making a fool of myself.

A new WHD slave was released for Lollypop yesterday. Yes, cycle exact off seems to be the way to go. The new slave is supposed to fix crashing issues, and also means it now works using only 0.5mb of chip ram. Those wanting to give the game a try perhaps I'd say stick with the IPFs for now.
