Music Production App for WinUAE?
Any suggestions for music composition/production software, on WinUAE, that takes advantage of the PC sound card, under AHI? Or suggestions for another route to quality audio from an Amiga MIDI app, using PC hardware?

Thanks, Frog. Seems ideal.
Now which instant-music composition software do people prefer? |

What do you mean by "Instant Music"?
Do you mean like Acid Pro where you just stick a bunch of prefab loops together? I don't think there was ever anything like that released for the Amiga. My favorite music program for the Amiga was Oktalyzer, a tracker that could do 8 voices (The Amiga only had four). Aegis Sonix (a simple software synthesizer and note-based sequencer) was great too, especially combined with a hardware sampler and Aegis Audiomaster (sampling software). Sonix helped me learn how to read music. |

Sune, I'm thinking of algorythmic "autocomposer" programs, SuperJam is one I heard of, but I've been away a while.
Also, I realized I do have a MIDI keyboard from The Miracle Piano Teaching System for Amiga packed away. I could get a MIDI interface for the PC, to use with WinUAE. Recommendations or points to be aware of when shopping? |

I have this:
http://www.emu.com/products/product....&product=15188 I'll check later today if it works with WinUAE and let you know. Sorry I'm not familiar with SuperJam.. /edit ...so I went to look at their FAQ: http://www.musicmachines.net/faqsj.htm And there's a mention of a program from Electronic Arts called Instant Music. Turns out it was developed on the Amiga: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant_Music_(software) Sounds like it could be just what you're looking for. My EMS USB MIDI interface appears in WinUAE and can be selected.
I tested with Aegis Sonix 1.3, and got some really weird results. In Sonix, you can use the PC keyboard as a music keyboard and that works fine. But when playing on my MIDI keyboard, it doesn't play the note that I'm playing, and sometimes it plays two notes at once. And then the notes hang, once all four voices are playing I can't add another note. I tried loading different instruments but the same thing happens. At this point I don't know if it's my configuration (1.3 A500 with 512kb RAM expansion) a bug in WinUAE or a bug in/bad crack of Aegis Sonix. I'll have to try some other music programs. I'm guessing the MIDI input is not exactly one of the most tried and tested features of WinUAE. If someone could upload Instant Music to The Zone that would be great. |

Sune, thanks. the USB MIDI interface you selected looks promising.
From devouring Amiga magazines back in the day, I'm familiar with the existence of those Aegis and EA programs, but those are more retro than I'm looking for. SuperJam is one of the later auto-composer MIDI programs I heard about, maybe marketed as a companion to the still popular Amiga version of Bars&Pipes. I'm wondering if it's considered the tops in its class, or if it was eclipsed. As I mentioned, I've been away from the Amiga a while, the last Amiga magazine I got was from 93. |

Grabbed them all, thanks!
Will report back once I've got everything hooked up again. In the meantime; anyone who has a MIDI keyboard connected to their PC, could you please check MIDI in Winuae and see if it's working for you or not. I'm using a basic A500 configuration, I'll try clicking some random stuff in hope of success.. |

So SuperJAM is favored for auto-composing, I gather. Thanks for the opinions and support.
