Brilliance II - Tutorials

Hi Everyone,

I did mention sometime ago about creating Tutorials. I have just recorded the first tutorial and now creating various assets and planning Video and PDF. Sneak peek at the Tut, see attached.

I do plan going through a few tips and tools over time.

Sensational…
The two variations of Brilliance are my favourite amiga painting/pixeling programs.
A series of tutorials could be really helpful to those who find it’s interface too different from DPaint & PPaint and might be just the thing to get more people using it.
Also once you become familiar with it, using GraftX2 comes almost naturally.

Great work @invent. Thanks for your kind effort.
For me, your Rub-Thru tutorial will be very useful.

Very nice tutorial,

I for one didn’t know that in magnify mode, “n” centres the screen on the mouse cursor, which is actually quite handy and I really must use the “FIX BACKGROUND” more.

Love the Ham8_Cat comparison example, Ham8 still is really quite remarkable…

Great, nice to be able to show ideas that i discover while trying to learning the software.

@PerspexSphinx yes the n key is very handy in conjunction with the arrow keys to move the screen around. Fix Background is also very useful. Next tutorial using the grid will be a new tutorial tip.

Thankyou also for retweeting

Great stuff
Only...
Ham 8 was available from 1992, not 1994.

Brilliance II - Tutorial - FIX Background gadget

Hi Everyone,

As you know, I love Brilliance II. Here is the Tutorial for using Fix Background, and not only did I discover a bug in Brilliance, also discovered a very interesting effect for Halfbright (or Halfbrite), source files on my Patreon.

Hopefully a few of you know about my "No Signal" - portraits project using Brilliance.

Have a great weekend.

P.S. my brother kindly suggested I stop working on so many projects

Quite recently I got to work on projects that involve pixel art. Funny enough in 2023 Brilliance II is still very good software for it. I dont know it very well yet - I mainly used grafx2 and aseprite but Brilliance is - after all these years - fantastic piece of software. The only thing I am missing (or I dont know how to use it yet) are layers. Is it me or it doesnt have layers? Or if it does have - could somebody with more knowledge tell me how to use them? In any case - great software! And fantastic work @invent - I am following your YT channel. Great work!

If you have a look at the last issue of WhatIFF number 2.10 we cover the buffers you can use as a layer-like effect.

Hi Nezumi, Brilliance does not have layers.

However you can fake a two layer effect (kind of) by using the spare screen buffer (J) on keyboard, in conjunction with the lock screen option. It depends on what you want to do?

I think it's about using work arounds, so saving brushes (still or animated), saving more incremental file versions that you can go back to which could be looked at as a History setting that we have now in such programs as Photoshop. Certainly do miss having layers

I do sometimes us https://pixaki.com/ but this is for the iPad, it is a pixel art program and does have layers. Both programs you mention are very nice programs also.

Thankyou for your kind words - I should do more tutorials.

P.S. post update. I have attached a recent file I have worked on. If you see the Title "The Divide", this would be one way you might want layers. But the technique I used was to create the text as a "brush", first stamp down the HalfBright shadow text, then stamp the coloured text on top, so you build up the design with graphic elements on top of each other over time.

Thank you so much @amifan ! I didnt knew about WhatIFF :O Great. You got new reader for sure!

Just saw your answer @invent - yeah sad thing but maybe I can try what can be done with buffers. Although I do use layers quite a lot... Ow man, that program looks cool but I do not have iPad. Too pricey for me, always some other thing gets priority... Yeah would be cool to see some tutorials from you whenever you find time. Really like your work!
