DSDD Floppy disks.

Anyone got a good lead on supply of new double density disks?

If I got a run made, anyone interested?

I just use cheap IBM/DOS Formatted TDK MF-2HD and reformat them to suit my amiga.

Is this standard, or am I lucky to be getting away with it?

Not for long term.

I know that the curren draw required to write HD disks is different and thus tollerance issues come into play.

Basically of my stock here, I've been trying them in my mate's amiga. The dd ones are perfect, but the hd ones are full of errors. The disks reformat fine, but the data is dead.

It's true, though. HDs in a DD drive are not reliable in the long term.

Yuppers! Every old HD disk I have is completely useless. The DDs are fine, but the HDs are definately gone. Not a major problem since we have ADFs but I wonder how long it will be before companies notice this amiga resurgence and want their games back and start killing off ADF sites.

Well, ok probably won't happen, but still!

Also, two of my old samplers won't touch HD disks, they only want DD and they're fast wearing out.

I wasn’t too sure where to move this to at first, but as this is about a supply of new double density disks, I’ve decided to move this thread to MarketPlace.

I found some on my last trip to the electric market. The shop probably just wanted to get rid of them so they were selling for 1$ for one box ! (ten pieces) I was an idiot and I just bought three boxes (there were about ten). Next day I realised my mistake and went there again but all were gone :.(

having said that, how about HD disks on modified PC drives ? I'm planning to modify a panasonic ju-257 according to a hack on aminet. since the drive is hd compatible, will it work fine with HD floppies ? (used as DD)

Nope! The current draw is still the same, which is one reason why you're modifying it!

HD floppies will work just fine and dandy, just be prepared for a data failure at some point!

I bought a huge pack of 50 DSDD's on eBay for 10 dollars. You can get them there or on amigakit.com

www.meritline.com used to have them bulk, just checked and they no longer have them at all. I purchased 500 years ago for $20 and another $20 for shipping. They had jacked the price up to $50 I think after Isnagged mine

It seems like Imation is still carrying DSDD disks in it's catalog, maybe tracking down their importer and asking them where to get some..?

Although I guess they aren't interested in small quantities.. but maybe a few local dudes (country-wize) could put in an order for a few hundred disks?

Well if a few UK guys were interested in branded dsdd, I wouldn't mind doing an order of a few hundred if people were interested, either to restore old failing dds, or for whatever?

@ JonSick

The weekly computer fair near Tottenham Court Road tube station sells DD disks. I have bought three boxes from there. Entrance fee is £1. They have excellent prices on PC parts too. I can't remember the price, probably a few pounds.
The fair takes place every Saturday. If you want to go, I will PM you a map. (gotta draw it first)
