WTB: Any A500 HDD/RAM Sidecar Expansion

I'm after a sidecar RAM/HDD combo for my A500+. It must be in good condition and full working order, I will pay a reasonable price

I have an Alfapower 500 at the moment that i bought over at Amibay but it's doing nothing apart from giving me a big headache .... I have a thread here about it: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=718455#post718455

Is it still going strong? I've sold 2 of those things and a couple of A590's... Now i'm stuck with an Alfapower that i can't quite get my head around. I will wait for rare_j's response and will hopefully have yet another GVP HD+/HD8+

Out of curiosity, what exactly is the difference between the HD+ and the HD8+? They appear to be the same on the inside and out

As far as I can tell they are the same thing, it started as the hd+ I believe, perhaps gvp decided to rebrand it as a hd8+ to get across the fact you can stick 8mb ram in it as well as it being an hd.
Although back in the day 8mb (4x2mb) would have been monstrously expensive.
My one is a boxed hd+ with psu, unmodified until I loaded it with 4mb (4x1mb), the latest gvp rom(4.15 iirc) and a bigger hd.
I'll get some photos over to you when I get a mo.

Sounds good

I always found it a bit of a pain removing simms from GVP units... It always feels like the simm brackets are about to snap

I can't even remember who bought which units

@PowerPie5000,

Do you know how to get the A590 apart? It's the only thing I've had any trouble with. I have no urgent reason to do so, but I just can't see how to get in it, and I don't want to force anything.

Thanks, mate.

I actually can't remember I think it's the 4 outer screws on the bottom and maybe a couple of screws on each side of the edge connector (probably best to unscrew every screw you can see ). I don't remember having any trouble opening one of them, not sure if it was your one or not?. The top part of the case should pull off fairly easily though.

Anyway, i found one of my old GVP threads: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...&highlight=gvp

@rare_j... any news on the GVP HD+?

Thanks for that, mate. I'll have a go at that in a while and we'll see how good your memory is.

I guess you've been busy? Do you have a price in mind and is it in good condition? (any yellowing?).

Woooo! My GVP HD+ and SCSI CD drive arrived today... they are in fantastic condition with absolutely no yellowing

Just need to get it all running now, but i may need to upgrade my A500+ ROM to version 3.1 (it's 2.04 at the moment). It has WB 3.1 installed and is just giving me a plain white screen on boot-up, i suspect this is due to my A500+ only having a 2.04 ROM (not sure if this works with OS/WB 3.1?).
