What are "VGA mode resolution autoswitch" and "Variable sync"?

Can you give me a full description of these two?

Also, since I'm now in Full-window and subject to Win10's vsync, I noticed that the old "Low Latency VSync (50/60Hz) no longer works for games/demos that switch between PAL and NTSC (the audio slows down in NTSC parts from a PAL demo) so how good is "Variable Sync" instead?

Nope, Variable Sync is no good in that context, the audio still slows down and there is horrible buffer distortion in NTSC sections.

And it seems I've got "resolution autoswitch" disabled anyway, so the VGA option wouldn't do anything, and so now I've unchecked that, too.
