Well, the game is now being Zoned.

I made a little examination, it's particulary v1.7B (with occasional intro sequence bug), however I didn't notice any glitch on my behalf.

It's fully working with Psygore's manual in order to pass copy-protection questions. And as a bonus these archives contain a letter to Vulcan team, and complete walkthru as it was meant to be played.

Hopefully it's the treasure you're looking for.

Huge Thanks Rastan for what you've zoned

what could be done :

Ressourcing the text files in order to translate this beautiful game
Correct the bugs (as stated by the coder itself)
Create an original set of disks, and then dump them for SPS.

You're all welcome, though all the thanks belong to my ex-colleague who spent some bucks on buying this game, and gave me a permission to spread the wealth.

May I give my thoughts after reading the letter ?
It seems the disk protection isn't in place, the game only bears manual protection so Denis, except if you plan to also recreate the protection, it won't be easy to "convert" those files to floppy images.

There's a walkthrough included, and IMHO it's a final as it can get since this is the "commercial pre-release" that was proposed to Team 17 publishers (which refused to promote the game apparently ) .

Please someone devotes himself to confirm it's a bug-free release, Rastan said that he didn't even notice the intro bug.

Seriously, no offense. But your posts are really beginning to annoy me. You ask so much of people. Do this. Do that. Such childish behavior

Why don't you do us all a favour and get cracking and confirm that it's bug free yourself, so we don't have to.

I am simply trying to take into consideration the various past contributions in the light of this supposedly final original release. For example, I would have tried to use the startup script that prevents the Amiga game to reboot with this version.

Send me a save state just before the "bugs" occur and I shall load the game at this point and use the walkthrough to pass the trap, but I am not familiar with Dungeon Master like games so it could take time.

In its current state the game is playable from HD, that makes floppy image manipulations useless. No time wasted cracking the floppy protection, no time wasted dumping the game. Meynaf sounds like he's willing to to do the cracking part, I am not inventing it, read his latest posts.

Since Psygore requested it on whdload.de page, I was about to ask him if he planned to do something with this version.

Obviously, since cracks differ from one another, it would be pointless to have people doing the same thing at the same time, don't you think ?

Something doesn't fit here don't you think? In one post you ask for 'someone' (which includes you) to test it and in the other one you say it's pointless 'to have people doing the same thing at the same time' Well as long as you know what you're talking about...

Since the archive contains saved games and the manual is fully scanned, the testing and cracking parts can be done separately, I think.

However the previously discovered "bugs" from the cracked version could be related to the manual protection, that's why simply solving the previously unsolvable traps may not be enough.

So and why you don't do the testing yourself then?

Because if the cracking part is done first (the manual protection removed), then the testing part (if we talk about simply finishing the game) by someone unaware of the underlying "checksums" would be unnecessary.

Delauvive, why do you tend to complicate simple things? eh? why? why? eh?

i got lost in the last months of posts of this thread, so i don't know who has what version, but since:

- all version are now pretty much available;
- the bugs/bumps/protection checks are known or possible to ask about;
- walkthrough is in one of the archives;
- manual is scanned;

whoever is interested in doing hacks, craks or whdloads or wathever for this game, doesn't need particular input to do it.
whoever wants to play it, well, he already can.
is there something you want to do it yourself? than do it!

Then why do you ask someone else to do it, if it is unnecessary?

My suggestion (not a "demand" by any means) was aimed at Meynaf, and at the others who know Evil's Doom rooms & corridors by heart, and can look at the disassembled code at the same time.

This said, everyone is free to have a look, of course . It may simply not be necessary to report about it.

Gosh .

The bug reported in the introduction exist, i have provoked it, and god what a crash.
I was afraid my A1230 went KAbOom.

To trigger it, press space when the old chap talk has all appeared.
I also got a freeze when talking to the Tavern boss. Got stock on a sentence.

I've just found what happens in the 3rd (underwater) dungeon ; it was another checksum which blowed out the data of a button, it's fixed here :
meynaf.free.fr/tmp/edm-ptch.lzx

If you plan on trying it from a saved game, then it may be too late ; the thing happens when you first enter into a water level.

For the 5th dungeon, I finished it without finding anything unsolvable... Probably you've just missed a few keys

So for me this game can now be completely finished without hacking. Btw the final boss wasn't very powerful, as he didn't even last ten seconds in front of me

The version I'm using is the 1.54.

Thanks for your input, Meynaf and for the patch.
Since you offered a similar patch a while ago, could it be possible for you to include a small log which would list the fixes.

Now let's see if v1.7b has more to offer ...

I will try to capture the demo trailer for it to be watchable on YouTube.
Hang on to your knickers !

There aren't many... The new version only fixes the underwater level (dungeon #3, Belcoon). The first one allowed the game to run without rebooting and removed the main checksums, but the other protections were long dead.

Loads of small gfx problems, for what I've seen. For me it's a regression

The 40 sec. trailer presents the "vaporware" CD Special Edition version in iff anim format.

It bears impressing animated logos and nice backgrounds, but doesn't illustrate the actual gameplay. It plays a "P60" mod in the background.

Here are a few screenshots of the game I found on Aminet.
