Sorry, been busy with a new job and home decorating! Oh the joys of decorating...
Anyway, the menu is looking good, things have settled down now so monday/tuesday should give me enough time to get a beta together and get it tested at least a little bit. Maybe enough to have a second beta version out by the end of the week. I'm not promising anything but it's looking good. |

F**K (sorry)... I almost finished doing around 500 games into the AGS frontend for the A1200 I am gonna use in my living room and NOW I stumble on this thread
![]() This frontend looks FANTASTIC ! I am definetly gonna stop using AGS now, but doing all 500 games again for this new frontend is gonna be frickin hard ;-) Anyway, when do you plan to release first version ? Not a date, just to let us know if it is days, weeks, months or years ? ;-) If it is months or years then I will prolly just finish my AGS menu project.... Edit: will ya also release it with screenshots & info for games in your packs ? Or will we have to do screenshots, info & run scripts ourselves ? ![]() |

Hehe, I really am planning on having the beta version out this week.
I've had no problems with the frontend at all with some pretty thorough testing, I just need to check a few final things on a real Amiga and then it's good for some open testing. For now there is no games scanner so you'll have to manually remove games from the database (any text editor will do). Once the menu has gone through a few beta revisions and I've released it as v1.0 I'll get on with the scanner for my whdload packs. |

Would be neat if it could display a list of games for which there are WHDLoad installs but are not actually installed. Use it like an audit tool of sorts.

Well the database contains the information for all of the whdload games in my packs (bar the lastest pack) so in theory that is possible.
To start with though the games scanner won't even have a GUI/list or anything like that. It'll be a command line tool. |

Tomcat666: I will be providing screenshots yes, and boxscans, but not in the first beta. They'll definitely be in for the v1.0 release though (not 100% sure on a release date, we'll see how the beta(s) hold up!).
I personally use a combination of paintshop pro 9 and xnview for the picture conversion. |

Had a fair bit of time to spend on it last night and despite a few design issues (I've yet to draw up backgrounds for the main menu/category listing - both of which don't have boxart or gameinfo.) the existing code is working 100% from the testing I've done.
It's now just a matter of adding a few bits of code in, bundling together some screenshots/boxart and packing the whole thing up. I should have no interruptions tonight so should have a beta available very soon indeed. |

Also... I will be compiling an NTSC version as well, so those who use NTSC amigas can use it. The layout will change slightly of course (mainly the gamelist shrinking!), but that can't be helped!

So the first beta won't include any customising functionality like changing the placement of lists, textboxes, font etc. ?

You are correct
![]() My priority is firstly to get the scrolling speed of the menus tested, and to make sure that there are no problems running the games with the current code. (beta1) Next thing is adding script support (to load stuff other than whdload games). (beta2) There are a few other things I want to sort out before I make the necessary changes to the skinning system. I have a basic setup.ini file running, pulling in stuff such as item positioning, database location etc. but these won't be included in the beta just yet. |

Cool to know you'll eventually include 'skin' functionality. Still... can't wait to test the first beta
