Damn that Mario Artist! Can't complain with 24. Well done all and especially Nobby - finally get back a few points.
Thanks as always to Mr H for annoying and entertaining us in almost equal measure. |

May Quiz - Flash Classics In the year 2000 Macromedia Flash 5 is released, in which the programming language "ActionScript" is built in for the first time... At the latest now the time of Flash Games begins and flushes a wild mixture of crude chaos & great creativity onto desktop computers all over the world. I'm sure some of you will roll your eyes at this one... do Flash games even deserve to get their own quiz?! But after last round's 100% polished games from Nintendo, I can't think of a better counter-programme than the unfiltered deluge from the games laboratory that was Macromedia Flash. The time span is pretty much set this time, from 2000 to the year 2020, which was when eventually all those games just launched into a "Adobe Flash Player is no longer supported" message. Deadline is Wednesday 31 May, enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/ Here is the quiz, have fun! Direct link: https://i.imgur.com/P4Lmfd8.png |

I had thought about a Flash round for a while, but was hesitant as it's quite niche, especially for the retro crowd... admittedly, it was this forum that I was most worried about. °_° Average scores are LOW, let's see what the clues can do?
Here, you get one for free! 1) The games 1, 2, 3, 9, 15, 18 have already left Flash behind them and appeared on other platforms, either as ports or sequels. Okay, #3 only made it to Steam, but regardless. |

May Quiz - Clues #1
Now I've officially done it, the world is coming to an end. Apart from a few "yeah, just like back in school!" voices, the reaction to this round is quite bad, even more intense than I expected. Well, even though this is the worst quiz round ever created... 35 people are playing so far, I hope the following clues persuade a few more. Here are the first clues: 1) The following games have left the Flash platform behind via ports or sequels: the whole first row, 9, 11, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20 ...pretty much half! 2) The #3 and #12 are games to well-known Flash animated series, in which a single character (faceless grey guy or kung-fu stick figure) creatively fights hordes of enemies. 3) A popular Nintendo fighting game was very freely recreated on Flash with #6. 4) In game #9 you control a ninja and have to pass countless difficult platforming rooms. Deadline is Wednesday 31st May, participation via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/ Here is the quiz again, good luck https://i.imgur.com/P4Lmfd8.png |

May Quiz - Clues #2
Soon it will all be over, Flash will be switched off and this round will end! Next Wednesday is the deadline, so you only have a few days left. Over fifty players have already submitted - what about you? Here are the last hints: 1) Number 7 is a helicopter game that is played with just a single button. 2) In #11 you have to crush the castle pictured with the skilled use of a catapult. 3) Game 16 is a standard single player RPG where you go on an adventure quest, slay many monsters and level up. 4) The unusual thing about the picture shown at #8 is that this is the only level the game has. Deadline is Wednesday the 31st of May, please join via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/. May Quiz - Answers & High Score Almost 120 players, and I am just delighted as you are - look at these quotes! God yes this is my childhood, thank you so much for making! -ResetEra Brought back good memories of playing these games while I should have been working -Fontgeek Yes, I played many. (...) I loved flash games. -RocketBeans There are a few that bring back memories of wasting my childhood in front of a computer screen! - NintendoLife That's a great theme! -ResetEra I knew all the time wasted at work would come in handy at some point. -Fontgeek Personal favourite answer to "Did you play Flash games?" though was "Nope, I was stoned most of 2000-2005" - NintendoLife. Clearly you all loved it, Flash Classics #2 can come! ... ... ... Okay I'm just joking, I promise I won't do this to you again. There was a lot of complaining, answer rates weren't that great, and fewer participants than usual. :P But now it's time for the answers: first the names of the games as text, then the pictures, then the high score. 1) Binding of Isaac Not Wrath of the Lamb, not Rebirth or Afterbirth.... just the very first Binding of Isaac. Answer rate: 88% Other suggestions: Deathrun TV 2) Meat Boy At the very beginning, when the meaty blob wasn't yet "Super". Answer rate: 76% Other suggestions: jumping dino 3) Madness Interactive / Combat First an animated series, then interactive too.... and sequels are available on Steam. Answer rate: 49% Other suggestions: Henri Stickmin, Henry Stickmin, Gunman, Thing Thing, West of Loathing, Xiao Xiao 4) QWOP The control nightmare QWOP is also available for mobile phones, plus sequels with a horse (help!). Answer rate: 76% Other suggestions: WASD 5) Line Rider There is a port of this game for the Nintendo DS, the stylus control fits like a glove. Answer rate: 55% Other suggestions: Doodle World, Robot Wars 6) Super Smash Flash A cheap Smash Bros replica in Flash, but if you have nothing else it's good enough. Answer rate: 53% Other suggestions: Mario Combat, Projectile, Mario and Sonic Fight, Super Mario Crossover, Super Mario Fighter 7) Helicopter Game This game has many names... whoever mentioned a "helicopter" got the point. Answer rate: 58% Other suggestions: Happy Wheels 8.) This is the only level The game "Achievement unlocked" is from the same developer and looks almost the same, so I gave it a point as well. Answer rate: 52% Other suggestions: Elephant Quest, Blue Elephant, Run Elephant Run, Obey the Game,One Level, That Level Again 9) N This is not N+ or N++, which are available on all modern consoles, but the original "N" from 2004. Answer rate: 59% Other suggestions: Car Coin Racing, Dot Racer 10) Boxhead Zombie Wars Answer rate: 45% Other suggestions: Crimsonland, Ownage Burst, Zombie Mines 11) Crush the Castle Kind of like Angry Birds, but not quite as cute. Answer rate: 53% Other suggestions: Age of War, Angry Birds, Castle Clout 3, hero wars, Tower Defense 12) Xiao Xiao No. 4. "Stickman Gunshots" or "Stickman Madness" also gave the point because a few mobile ports of this game have that name. Answer rate: 25% Other suggestions: Henry Stickmin, madness combat 2 redeemer, MadnessFPS, Sniper Assassin, Thing Thing, Gun Blood, Gunshooter 13) Friday night funkin' A DDR clone, among the all-time most popular Flash games on Newgrounds.com. Answer rate: 47% Other suggestions: Daddy Dearest, Mastermind: World Conqueror, Super Dance Revolution 14) Flash Element TD My very first tower defense game! https://www.freewebarcade.com/game/flash-element-td/ (Use the space bar to turn life bars on/off) Answer rate: 42% Other suggestions: Boulder Dash, Flash, Marble Sadness, Onslaught, Putt Putt Joins The Parade, Shock Defence 15) Luftrauser No "S" or "Z" at the end, just the original... you got points for the sequels too, of course. Answer rate: 30% Other suggestions: Realm of the Mad God, Storytime Skull, Swords and Sandals, Torment 16) Adventure Quest Another totally generic name! I also let "Dragon Fable" stand since it's essentially just an update for Adventure Quest. Answer rate: 44% Other suggestions: Age of War, Axe Wielder, Epic Battle Fantasy, Paladin Armor 17) Scary Maze Sent around as a Halloween joke among friends, then made famous as a prank on Youtube: https://scary-maze.com/ Answer rate: 44% Other suggestions: 18 Qix, Thomas Was Alone 18) Motherload Also available on ps3 and ps4 as "Super Motherload". Answer rate: 36% Other suggestions: Agartha, Baulderdash, Crystal cave, Knightmare Tower, Megadrill, natural disaster, Tibia 19) World's Hardest Game So, is it the hardest game in the world? https://www.crazygames.com/game/worlds-hardest-game Answer rate: 43% Other suggestions: Impossible game, Labyrinth, Super Dot Hero 20) Frog Fractions Answer rate: 34% Other suggestions: Alice is Dead, Luchadore Super Hero Judge, Toad Court 21) Neopets Freaky Factory Neopets had a lot of minigames based on Flash. Solving rate: 14% Other suggestions: Commobore 64 Adventures, Dangeresque, Riddle School, The Stanley Parable 23) Starship Eleven As an old "Thrust" or "Lunar Lander" fan, this was one of my favourite games in Flash. I even paid for the premium version. https://www.miniplay.com/game/starship-eleven Answer rate: 15% Other suggestions: Moon Lander, Lunar Lander, Armageddon, Into Space, Samorost, Spaceship Lander, Starfall, Thrust 24) Steamshovel Harry Actually just a joke masquerading as a game - You have 10 minutes to save the world, but the sprawling tutorial eats up so much time that the actual game is over after just a few seconds. -_- Answer rate: 8% Other suggestions: Fantastic Contraption, Jetpac, Monkey Sat On My Telephone, Mutilate-a-Doll 2, Ragdoll Game, Telephone Game 25) Don't Shoot the Puppy Question for you gaming experts... does this count as a video game or not? https://flasharch.com/en/archive/pla...621d672ab6cc8f Answer rate: 29% Other suggestions: Canabalt, Fly guy, Kingdom of Loathing, RRRThat's5Rs, West Of Eternal Suffering, West of Loathing Here is the quiz picture again, followed by the answers: Answers: Direct link: https://i.imgur.com/FerGozX.png HIGH SCORE TABLE 01 - 25 points - rtg - Antiriad2097 01 - 25 points - cib - frozentiger 01 - 25 points - rta - Illusionary 01 - 25 points - spz - The_BACH 01 - 25 points - mnc - Mangamaniac2171 01 - 25 points - rta - Marek 01 - 25 points - mnc - OfflineChris 01 - 25 points - mnc - Gerhard S. 09 - 24 points - mnc - Ost West Elite 10 - 22 points - rta - AuraPaladinne 11 - 22 points - mtc - Wibblewozzer 12 - 22 points - rta - malus 13 - 21 points - mmx - fedprod 14 - 21 points - gpo - rave 15 - 21 points - mtc - Valdien 16 - 21 points - gsg - partykiller 17 - 21 points - eab - Nobby_UK 18 - 21 points - rpg - Calastellio 19 - 20 points - gms - hellermarie 20 - 20 points - rtg - ElginMcQueen 21 - 20 points - gpo - DocMoody 22 - 20 points - rta - hamsterstyle 23 - 19 points - eab - Havie 24 - 19 points - ntl - charlix12323 25 - 19 points - mmx - Lynx 26 - 19 points - smu - Herr Schatten 27 - 18 points - rkb - kirika1987 28 - 18 points - spz - Striderblade 29 - 17 points - rta - Gygas 30 - 17 points - gav - Scorplian 31 - 16 points - gav - Wizdom 32 - 16 points - sh2 - FoxSpitzer 33 - 16 points - pop - Don Como 34 - 16 points - mnc - Lukulus 35 - 15 points - gms - j1m 36 - 15 points - ftg - LockeTribal 37 - 15 points - ata - Keir 38 - 14 points - mmx - LittleChoco 39 - 14 points - hcg - personman 40 - 14 points - mmx - Shades 41 - 14 points - ntl - Matt_Barber 42 - 14 points - mmx - Dnamei 43 - 14 points - mmx - Knuckles 44 - 13 points - can - Dark Kariya 45 - 13 points - rta - aLaxLuthor 46 - 13 points - ftg - Vandelay 47 - 13 points - mtc - Parsnip 48 - 13 points - ata - jgkspsx 49 - 13 points - mmx - Klunky 50 - 12 points - ftg - Lurker 51 - 12 points - pop - turzilla 52 - 12 points - gms - kopyright 53 - 12 points - ftg - rwklau 54 - 12 points - sh2 - BVBFabi09 55 - 11 points - mnc - chifan 56 - 11 points - ftg - gamingdave 57 - 11 points - nto - 4C8en 58 - 11 points - ftg - Destria 59 - 11 points - rta - EarthPainting 60 - 11 points - ntl - Dogorilla 61 - 10 points - cib - Seizokano 62 - 10 points - mtc - FunnyJay 63 - 10 points - cib - GaiaGensouki 64 - 9 points - rpg - Zion 65 - 9 points - hcg - dsparil 66 - 9 points - gpo - Bully 67 - 8 points - ftg - harrypalmer 68 - 8 points - pop - Sascha 69 - 8 points - eab - mailman 70 - 8 points - mnc - elementalMaster 71 - 8 points - m!g - Red XIII 72 - 7 points - cib - Lockeboss 73 - 7 points - gpo - kataka 74 - 7 points - mtc - MegaApple 75 - 6 points - spz - Geddoe 76 - 6 points - mtc - QFNS 77 - 6 points - ntl - StarPoint 78 - 6 points - rkb - Philippe161 79 - 6 points - gav - Cube 80 - 5 points - hcg - windfisch 81 - 5 points - nto - Ande 82 - 5 points - gpo - Navarone 83 - 5 points - wtd - svenoble 84 - 5 points - hcg - Alexmate 85 - 4 points - hcg - snake 86 - 4 points - hcg - teroknor 87 - 4 points - sh2 - Bonz 88 - 4 points - ftg - JuniorFE 89 - 4 points - mtc - xrr 90 - 4 points - smu - BulletMagnet 91 - 3 points - ntl - BabyYoda71 92 - 3 points - wtd - Waelthus 93 - 3 points - gav - RIppi 94 - 3 points - gpo - GAMEPROFF 95 - 3 points - ata - RangerS 96 - 3 points - ftg - mrpon 97 - 3 points - gpo - Eddie 98 - 3 points - mnc - HomiSite 99 - 3 points - wtd - jenoogle 100 - 3 points - gpo - Messor Torvus 101 - 2 points - gsg - RoT 102 - 2 points - f64 - Joystick 103 - 2 points - cib - Icho tolot 104 - 2 points - rtg - AlexH 105 - 2 points - pop - PUH 106 - 2 points - hcg - teroknor 107 - 2 points - mtc - freshVeggie 108 - 2 points - f64 - Jammet 109 - 2 points - hcg - excelsior 110 - 2 points - gpo - FireSmoke 111 - 2 points - m!g - geohound 112 - 2 points - gpo - Konsolomio 113 - 2 points - ntl - Bunkerneath 114 - 2 points - mnc - Mitschel 115 - 1 points - gav - Yoshi 116 - 1 points - cib - Jan565 117 - 1 points - pop - Arne 118 - 1 points - m!g - Kong 119 - 0 points - ftg - Lizard LOCAL HIGH SCORE 1 - 21 points - Nobby_UK 2 - 19 points - Havie 3 - 08 points - mailman Congrats to Nobby_UK for the local lead and the Top 20 position. Oh I actually knew 4. Luftrausers as a non-flash game is pretty good. I should have recognised the almost faded photo style of color palette.

Well done Nobby (again) - can't believe I got two wrong but then again, Google searches gave multiple titles for some games.
Let's hope that next month's quiz is a bit easier... |
