Hi thgill,

Here are the screenshots I took today. The colours are actually much more vibrant than they appear. This is because I had to apply Gamma correction to the images in order to crop them accurately on my PC. I am using a tired old 14-inch CRT monitor until I receive the 1.8m male to male SVGA monitor PC to TFT lead I bought on eBay which will allow me to use the Toshiba with my PC as well and cure this problem!

Click the thumbnails for bigger images. They're VERY big! Zoom in and check the detail.

PAL: High Res Laced; 670 x 538 x 256 colours.

PAL: High Res Laced (Wide); 670 x 538 x 256 colours.

PAL: Super-High Res Laced; 1340 x 538 x 256 colours.

The Super-High Res Laced Workbench suffers from cramped text. This could be improved by changing the Font Preferences.

@prowler

wow that does look good...text is very sharp and clean.

Would appear that the built in scaler is doing a fine job of handling the Amiga's rather low res.

No need taking NTSC pix my friend. I can clearly see that this TV would be up to the task.

Time to start counting my pennies...

Thanks for your comments, my friends. They are appreciated.

It wasn't easy producing screenshots designed to illustrate display quality without professional equipment, so they are less than perfect. I am greatly relieved that you found them helpful nonetheless. It makes the effort worthwhile!

This morning I received the 1.8m HD15 male to male VGA cable I bought on eBay to be able to use my new Toshiba 19-inch LCD widescreen HDTV as a PC monitor.

I am now using it with this machine and I am happy to report that at 1280 x 1024 @ 60Hz it is giving a sharp and solid picture with a choice between 4:3 or wide picture scaling!

You should be able to use widescreen resolutions as well, it will tell you in the manual what ones are supported in PC mode.

You might need to upgrade your Video card drivers for them to be available though...

The standard user's manual doesn't include information like that, unfortunately. To view the advanced functions available for the set, Toshiba have an owner's manual area on their website:

Yes. 1600 x 1200 (not compatible with this set) is the highest standard resolution available (embedded Intel Extreme Graphics) with the installed drivers. Mind you, 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024 don't look bad at all when scaled to widescreen.

Hmm... That's just as well. The latest Intel® Extreme Graphics Driver for integrated video on Intel Desktop Boards is the one I have already dated 7th March 2003 for Windows NT 4.0 So I'm actually going to need a graphics card to get widescreen modes.

I think I can wait until it's time to get a new machine.

During the last hour or so I have won 18 Amiga Plus CD-ROMs on eBay at £2.99 each. I have just been watching them fall like skittles.

I am negotiating with the seller (Airey36) on combined p&p.

The CDs are dated between January 1996 to July 1999. I've not heard of this magazine before, but it appears from the card sleeves that Amiga Plus was a German Amiga magazine.

Whatever they turn out to be, it seems I will have some new material to upload to the EAB File Server.

I just picked up an s-video to VGA converter Box...

From: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.28534

I wanted to hook my CD32 and xbox 1 up to a spare vga monitor I found in my loft.

I did purchase what I thought was the same converter box from ebay quite a few months ago but got ripped off and got sent the wrong item and no refund. ...hopefuly from this shop I should get the correct gear.

I would be very interested to hear what quality you get from this!
Will it do VGA to composite/svideo?

It was Anemos that got me interested in the converter (originaly from him posting images on pspuae). You can see how good the quality is in these posts:
