Soldering iron and Hot Air gun for SMD Rework
Works wonderfully! Still have to work on a Miggy with it, though

I have the same iron. The case is bit too big for my tastes, but the iron heats up and the hot air blower works, so that's fine.

My old Weller WTCPS still rules though. ;-)

Solder braid is sooooo much more easy to use than a solder pump for small amounts of solder.

Well, yes... But if the solder joints are big, then it's like heaven...
I used like 5-10 minutes to desolder a 36 pin IC chip, and to solder on an IC socket instead.

Through hole components are a pain to get loose with only braid as your tool.

It's easy to overheat the pcb with it if you are not experienced.

How can I remove solder in through-holes? Take the Amiga 500 mobo as an example, the newer ones where you can solder on 512kB more RAM. Well, on mine all the RAM pin holes are filled with solder. Pain, yes indeed!

I have a solder braid and a desoldering pump, still I find it hard to get it out.. First off, when I use the pump the soldering iron is in the way, blocking the soldering hole.
When I try with the solder braid, all that happens is that I destroy the hole itself... Makes the pad broken!
Any ideas? Is it supposed to be easy, thus I'm doing it wrong?

EDIT: I got an idea! What about using the soldering iron from under the mobo, then use the pump from above the mobo? Sounds like a bad way of doing it, but I have to try one day.

I do this, I secure the PCB on a vertical position, then with one hand i put the pump over the hole and with the other hand I heat the other side of the hole..
the best solution is a 'desoldering iron' (i know they are a bit expensive..)

I have a thin enough tip to go in the via. I just stick the iron in for a few moments, then take it out and immediately put the sucker on top of the via and press the button.

Takes a few attempts, but this works for me.

I've done the heat from one side, pump on the other side thing plenty of times too. If the via is on a ground plane, it may be impossible to keep the solder flowing long enough to pump it out otherwise.

I wish I had a proper desoldering iron, but there's only so much room in my cupboard and so much money on my account.

I need to de-solder a lot of RAM chips, so I'm considering buying a 'hot air soldering iron'.
any recommendations? (would like to spend less than 200eur if possible)

I cannot find any tyhat directly state they wil ship to Serbia, however I am sure if you message them they might try and help you.

heres the product I would recommend

It costs about 50 Euros, but you will probably be looking at 50-70 euros in postage.

You don't. It just melts the solder and you remove the component. Clean up happens with other means. Braid, pump, whatever.
