Maybe the two threads should be merged? https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php...63#post1647363

While I still think this engine would be put to better use for an RPG, I am still having a hard time believing this is possible on an A500. It's that impressive.

Depends on whether the variable heights renderer is ready on time (btw this already exists but currently it is unoptimized and does not support objects). If not it could still be done for Grind 2 f.e.

No that thread was for the poll only. Probably it's about time for a new, Grind specific dev thread

Is there a chance Grind could be out before the feature is ready?

Yes, very big chance. Without wanting to create big expectations, my goal for the Amiga version is to get it ready (or at least as close to a release state as possible) by the end of 2024. But the amount of work needed is colossal and there are a lot of other factors (f.e. I'm not alone in the team and fast progress in not always guaranteed on all fronts, simply due to the complexity of the work), so better take that with a grain of salt

There are both advantages and disadvantages with a one man team, but Im curious, in your current work process, what is the most time consuming part of your work?
I can’t stop thinking how generative AI tools are going to give small teams super powers in terms of what and how much they will be able to produce in the (relatively near) future.

Well.. everything!
Seriously now, probably the most time consuming part was sorting out compiling issues. There's nothing more frustrating than getting an error out of nowhere and then spending days upon days in agony, trying unconventional stuff to curate it, or even find what's going on. Especially if you have absolutely no freakin' idea of what you're doing.. Hopefully this issue was insta-sorted once BSzili took over the Amiga version (a couple months ago)

As for my general work process, it's quite straight forward actually. I don't burden myself doing everything at once and I'm making sure I don't leave unfinished stuff for later. F.e. the last month I was laser focused finishing the new pistol and shotgun gfx designs, with the goal being to showcase them in the recently released binary. The month before I mostly spent it in converting the entirety of the assets for the ST version as it was due time to also showcase progress on that front.

Why not both?

However, the Amiga really needs this to be a shooter. It's the one missing piece of what the Amiga could do.

I know heights are an issue, but are you still considering making the weapons react to lighting? I remember it being on the todo list, and it'll only be a palette adjustment on the sprite? I actually think doing that will add quite a lot to the atmosphere.

That looks amazing, can't quite still believe it is running on a basic A500. I love the graphics, they remind me of playing the HeroQuest boardgame for some reason.

it looks pretty good on a crt monitor, does anyone have a video of what it looks like with glorious color bleed/etc using an old tv rather than monitor? does the tv look better or worse? often notice some things look sharper/better on a monitor but the game kinda doesnt look as good now the pixels are crystal clear.

As the executable file of GRIND is specified as only running on < 020 machines, this is a WHDLoad install that works on my A1200 030/64 and should work on other accelerated Amigas. It does report a CACR resload violation upon exit but still works ok. Icon is 8 colour for versatility.
Just add the executable from the Patreon site to the Data folder and rename it "GRIND_v0.3.exe" (the original filename is too long for recognition by the OS)
Attached Files
File Type: rar Grind_v0.3.rar (24.8 KB, 26 views)
