Yes, because even once small icons, if you try to move and save the location of these icons, the next time the system these icons are corrupted, see screenshot.
Anyway AfA It is a nice system, but most modern, for those not familiar I am attaching a video showing a system AfA standard. [ Show youtube player ] Last edited by AMIGASYSTEM; 04 March 2016 at 14:09. |

Just thinking now: A slow system needs a small screen. Also if you don't have an indi you can't get larger resolutions.
What about using a small screen and using smaller icons? In your Tv it could look like a larger one, but it would work much faster. Just my idea. If it could work right it would be a great solution if we could have smaller icons. Well, of course the bar will look too wide, and the size of the letters should be also changed. The ideal is to have a tool such as Windows to change on the fly all the icons with a click, ,his is not only important for the Workbench, but also for the various menu bars as AmiStart e AmiDock

@Retrofan and Gulliver
Let's assume that the original icon width is 46 pixels. Which new size would you prefer for your low resolution screens? Scaled down to 2/3 (30 pixels) or 1/2 (23 pixels) ? I would suggest to generate icons with 30 pixels. What is your opinion? @AMIGASYSTEM The scaling is done on the fly. But I will not offer scaling to any pixel size, just to one fixed multiplier like 150% or 66%. Last edited by PeterK; 24 December 2015 at 00:20. |

My choice: Scaled down to 2/3
This way OS4 icons could be displayed more aproximately as the size of glowicons. |

Upscaling to 3/2 and downscaling to 2/3 is nearly done now. This way, downscaling can even revert the previous upscaling back to the original icon image.
An update will come soon ... |

Update to icon.library 46.4.417:
The icon.library now comes with the two shell commands "IconUpScaling" and "IconDownScaling". You can use them at runtime to enlarge the icon images to 150 % or to reduce them to 66% of their width and height. This works with all PNG, OS 3.5 and OS 4 icons, but not with NewIcons or oldstyle planar icons. NewIcons can be converted, of course. Calling one of the new commands for a second time switches the scaling off again. Don't get confused when saving the scaled icons to disk, because they are updated and scaled again immediately. Switch the scaling off after writing is done and reopen the window. Everything should be as expected. |

Thanks! I'll try those new icons now.
Edit: This is great, they have to be very fast in a slow miggy. Both screenshots are with a Pal HighRes Laced screen that you can use without Indi: Normal Icons: DownScaled ones: Merry Christmas PeterK and thanks for the gift Edit: There is a bit of saving of Chip Ram too as you can see, and also fast... Also, as you see the Dopus5 bar gets downscaled too, which makes it perfect. Last edited by Retrofan; 23 January 2016 at 02:40. |

Thanks a lot for your feedback, Retrofan !
Just don't call the scaling from the startup-sequence. Use scaling at runtime, save your icons, and switch the scaling off again. Finally, reopen the windows, realign the icons with Sort and Fix. Seems you did that already, because your smaller icons have new positions. Happy X-MAS to everybody |

Thank you PeterK!
The scale down feature makes big icons now look great without cluttering the screen. Merry Xmas |

First post like always
BTW the way you're making the downscaling is very good. Look the Clear Ram icon, it only uses half of the pins of the drawing of the chip, I don't know how you made it, it looks like a new icon . Edit: Michael, Speed test with scaled down icons? Last edited by Retrofan; 24 December 2015 at 18:41. |

The original "Clear RAM" icon has 15 pins on each side. All the pins and the gaps are 1 pixel wide.
My "IconDownScaling" routine skips every third pixel. So, as a result you get a smaller "Clear RAM" icon with only 5 pins, but each pin and each gap is 2 pixels wide now. |

Ok, thank you PeterK, did some 'testing with icon.library 46.4.417 on my system AfA_OS A4000/040:
- Icon.library "68020" and "Lined" -> commands "IconUpScaling" and "IconDownScaling" they do not work - Icon.library "68000" -> commands "IconUpScaling" and "IconDownScaling" works, but it will change the color palette of DOpus 4, and it ruins the graphics window (Skin Theme) Last edited by AMIGASYSTEM; 23 January 2016 at 07:57. |

What do you mean with "68020" and "Lined" or "68000" and "Lined" ??
Of course, you have to copy and rename the library, remove the extension. Usually: Quote:
The 68000 version can not handle Hi/TrueColor screens, only up to 256 colors are displayed. And the 68000 version doen't support MoreLibSpace, thus AfA can't load icon_lib.exe and it "works" as good as possible. Last edited by PeterK; 24 December 2015 at 20:22. |

Compare it with AmiKit. I'm not the AfA_OS maintainer and don't want to become it !
