I've been waiting for 18 to pop up for years! Every time there was a 2d sprites in this style I was convinced it was this game and this time it was!

August Quiz - Clues #2
Over fifty people are already playing - how about you? The answer rates are between 86% and 2%.... I hope to help the latter with this post, some titles are (without some classification to assist) once again very tricky. Well then! Enough talk, here come the last hints: 1) The 19 is a DOS exclusive graphic adventure from the late 90s. 2) Action platformer #12, released only for DOS & Amiga, has two graffiti sprayers as protagonists. 3) Number 9 is a turn-based strategy game with mercenaries. 4) 13, 14 and 15 all have a "Stone Age" setting. Deadline is Wednesday 31 August, enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/ Here is the puzzle again - you can do it: https://i.imgur.com/GFZMmD7.png |

#19 is going to kill me. If it is the game I think it is then I remember seeing that exact graphic in a PC gaming magazine at the time and I remember thinking "ugh, that game is way too brown". I bought nearly every game reviewed in that magazine but obviously not this one. So I can't remember the bloody name!

I am now totally second guessing whether I actually entered or not. I thought I'd put my entry in early this month but now Havie's post has me second guessing myself. Guess I'll find out soon!

Oh it was Descent 2 ? Never played that one, only Descent 1 which is what I put. When it is packed down into such a small screen snippet you don't see much of a difference anymore
Test Drive 2! Jeez I went through so many racing games, I just never thought that graphic would belong to a Test Drive game. This round I actually found some games with the dumbest searches. You just don't try to be clever about it, Google needs to be clever for you. For Putt Putt I just googled "dos purple car" and poof - a screen full of putt putt. For Ravenloft I tried to be mister smarty pants first and go through late 90's DOS RPGs on Mobygames because it has that look to it, kind of low res polygonal but still using sprites. I did spot Ravenloft there but none of the screenshots really showed anything desert-like so I dismissed it. All RPGs of that era look the same. So then I just Googled "dos rpg vulture" and that popped up Ravenloft again, but still no desert. So then I put Ravenloft into Youtube and hey presto, the game (Ravenloft 2 specifically) starts out in the desert... fighting vultures. And yeah now that I see more of #19... that was the exactly the game from the PC gaming magazine. Still don't recognise the name though. Did anyone ever actually play it? I just checked it out on Youtube and boy does it look dreadful. That late 90's/early 2000's endearing shittiness where games fell in between 2D and 3D graphics and for some reason everything had to move really slowly. Maybe because the game had to be able to stream data from very slow CDROM drives or something... |

Damn, Star Control not Starflight...
Haven't heard about Sign of the Sun. Might be worth checking out. |
