Yes, im using birdie and visualprefs. The window gadgets are called amigaDE, found on aminet. For the windowtitles im using ´Titleshadow´ and for the icontext im using a tool called ´Outlinefont´. The menubar is nothing special at all. The colors are arranged with visualprefs, which is also responsible for the top-left boing image. The information displayed is a feature of MCP, and the small pointereyes are done with ´Amiga_Eye´. |

Would you like the red or blue gloves? You can't see the blood on the red ones...

I revised my winuae workbench a little bit. Birdie proved very useful! Icons are Glowicons Revolution and Exoticons.

MagicMenu has a transparency option, but only in 16-bit+ screenmodes afaik. Maybe there is a patch that allows transparency in AGA modes?

An old version I had didn't even have the transparency option. Get the latest one from Aminet. Right on visualprefs causes more trouble than it's worth. It completely breaks birdie on my setup.

@Burseg
You need to set one or two options in VisualPrefs to have Birdie work correctly Look into the readme of both progs, it´s in there ! |

Blah, visualprefs; MCP; clicktofront; the latest magic menu; nice as they are they seem to cause more problems than they're worth. After playing around I always find something wrong or strange after installing them. For instance, visual prefs messes up multiviews arrows and border windows, strange things happen with certain MCP options, the latest Magic Menu is incompatible with DpaintV (leaves black boxes on screen when using menus), Clicktofront had some nasty public screen bug I can't remember now. Hacks, hacks and more hacks. Hate them. Only a few don't cause some compatibility and/or stability issues.
Scalos seems one of the best in an "essential features:minimum problems" kind of ratio, although even that isn't perfect. Fblit incompatibility is a big reason why many of you guys drop it. All these hacks makes the Workbench look nice however! - GREAT work Burseg! Love that wallpaper with the Amiga in the background. Was that due to Bippy hating "Planet Miggy"? To be fair some of them do work trouble free. The older Magic Menu Akira gave (thanks) me works 100% as do a few some others I tested thoroughly. I guess it's all about striking a balance that works personally best for you. Macca, someone did a thread outlining essential workbench additions. Do a search for the keywords - "essential" and "workbench". Also there is AIAB and ClassicWB packs available. Last edited by Bloodwych; 27 July 2004 at 18:26. |

Retroman, visualprefs is working thanks to your reminder! BUT I only wanted visualprefs for square gadgets and no matter what I do, I can't change the way gadgets look when birdie is running! I can swear I saw screenshots with birdie+square gadgets.
edit: there! Buzz's workbench has them but what happened to him? I hope that C= tattoo didn't cause a fatal infection You can never know what happens when you mess with that cursed company Last edited by oldpx; 30 August 2004 at 02:58. |

The Best WinUAE Desktop
Whats your best WinUAE desktop?
I don't really mean good looking but functional and useful.... what is YOUR WinUAE workbench like? What do you use WinUAE for other than games? Respect, Unregistered |

Desktop
I use WB 3.9 and Dopus 5.5 Megallan. Its so much easier to use than plain WB (BTW, there are a plans for Dopus for OS4!!)
I don`t play games that often with Winuae, I tend to do development with SAS C 6.55 and Storm C 4 and using it to update my winuae.chm help file. |

my desktop has a grey background and just the Shell and Classaction icons on it... 640X512, full overscan @ 16 colors.... I don't include a pic, because it is really nothing special... I just use it to browse my files with ClassAction and start my whdl games... fast and memory efficient!

You people should be ashamed of yourselves. You call yourselves Retro-maniacs? Your Amiga desktops look better than most modern computers I've seen!
Here's what retro is all about (Amiga 1200, 10 MB RAM, 340MB HD): I have ToolsDaemon and Taskbar installed, but other than that it looks the same.. To be honest, I'm quite jealous of your desktops. |
