I have some 150ns 27C400s that don't work on my A1200. (~142ns or lower is needed, I guess some 150ns are still fast enough but not all)

I also have one official EPROM-version of KS 3.1 which is 120ns.

150ns is more than fast enough for 68000-based Amigas.

Lightbulb Eprom Compatabilty?

Hi again, does anyone know where I can see a list of which eproms are pin compatable with others?

For example I beleive you can use a 27c512 in place of a 27c256 by just programming half the chip, it will still read ok in a device intended for a 27c256?

I am still looking into Amiga suitable eproms also.

I see there are also 27c040 & 27c4001 eproms. Are these compatable with 27c400 that I now know will work with Amiga?

I'm also looking for a cheap source of G4T5 GL-4 Germicidal UV tube for my old eraser. I ordered some from the USA but they turned up with 110V stamped on them and they won't stay fired in my eraser. So I assume I need some 220 / 240VAC versions?

I also bought a `True USB Willem programmer' from MCU mall. The first one I received would not talk to my AMD Dual Core 64 Athlon 4000+ PC. The second one I bought from them will talk with the PC, but still seems kludgie with the results I get. Has anyone else had any experience with this burner?

I am considering buying a TOP2049 USB Eprom programmer next. Can anyone shed any light on wether this is a good model or not?

Also wether it will use the same style Willem daughter boards etc?

TNX all!

Eek How about a Pic Micro?

How about a Pic Micro?

Would it be easier to make a daughter board and use a pic micro to emulate the eprom?

Is that possible perhaps?

Obviously 1:1 pin compatible 27C400 (27C800/27C160 with small modifications) is easier than designing and building a daughter board

Big grin How about 27c4100 ???

OK, TNX..

How about 27c4100 ??

I see someone selling these and they suggest they are 27c400 compatible?

The whole part number is

MX A9650
27C4100DC-12

The speed looks good at least!

It is compatible but note that it is OTP (one time programmable only, not UV-erasable)

Thumbs up 27c4100DC-12 Look to be UV erasable???

Are you sure?

There have a little window and you can see the chip inside.
(Like a normal EPROM).

THey are second hand and the seller says they are UV erasable.

Ok, perhaps both variants are available. (I have only seen some OTP 27C4100 datasheets. But whats the real difference between 27C400 and 27C4100? Both have identical pinout..)

Happy Whats the difference?? Well ...

What's the difference?

The difference is that I have found a source for the 27c4100 's at a reasonable price and 120ns which should be fast enough.

The 27c400 's however I was unable to locate.

Thats all.

ask the seller if they are re-programmable. this way you will know for certain, the last thing you want is OPT when you need EE LOL..

Yep, I asked him and he assures me they are UV erasable.

There is a picture of them and they have the little UV window.

The IC is also clearly marked with the correct part number.

I've bought 6x for AU$22 inc postage. So pretty cheap.

When they arrive I'll have a play and let everyone know how it went.

I would have preferred to buy new, hopefully these are in good nick.

The seller advertises as , in good condition no broken pins etc.

He also advertises M27C160 *16M*

These seem to be a 42 pin.

I wonder whats involved to use these?

Could one have two different kickstarts and a switch for example to switch between them?

My next job is to find some images to play with.

I have

A3000 (Original ROM's that boot from hard drive for Kick image)
A1000 (Original PAL, boots form disk for Kickstart)
A600HD
A500

You can have *four* (4x512K = 2Mx8 = 16megabits) Kickstarts in one 27C160 with simple switch. Check my CDTV post for some details

Thumbs up Stuff n things.

OK, I think I found your post. It has CDTV hack's and pictures.

Very interesting.

I'll see how I go with the EPROM's I've ordered and I might play further from there.

If anyone is interested I've also posted a thread with details on how to join an Amiga chat line.

I'd be keen to chat with others and catch up on lots of stuff.

Here is the thread.

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=33639

I'm also interested in learning more about and possibly getting something called a Catweasel MK4 board.

I think this will let me archive all the hundreds of C64 and Amiga disks I have here using a PC, Linux & normal 3.5 & 5.25" drives?

I am about to make my own custom 3.9 roms, I am gonna include the os3.9 kickstart updates, and some blizkick modules.
I will also include a custom bootlogo blizkick module that a friend has coded, but what else are you guys including in your kickstarts? What is possible to include?
It would be cool to be able to boot from a compact flash, is it possible?
Please tell me what you have included, and what is possible to include.

CF booting is easiest to do from the IDE connector. I don't think anyone has gotten around to modifying cfd to be ROM'able or autobootable.

Lightbulb IDE on stock A500?

Speaking of IDE. Whats the easiest way to add an IDE connector for a hard drive to a Stock A500?

There are tones of A500's around. But they are fairly useless with out a hard drive.

I am yet to make my own *custom* roms, been so damn busy, silly season and all that, but best to look up doobie ray
