There are much thinner packages for LDO regulators there days. The savings in cost for extra sockets might be worth looking into.
e.g. Micrel MIC37300 series 3.0A, low voltage uCap LDO in their S-PAK SMT package. (2.03mm / 0.080") Also DFN or ePad SOIC
http://www.micrel.com/index.php/en/p...-mic37302.html

TI also have something similar and also other SMT packages with heatsink tabs.

Does anyone know where to obtain the modified Exec to allow use of a full 060 with this adaptor on an A4000?

I understand it was available on Cosmos' site, but while the link to the file appears to be still there, clicking on it gives a 404.

You can blame a greedy seller for that:

Update :
I just saw some f****ers sell my hard work on EAB,
so no more release here.

It looks like you will have to request the patch by email for the time being...

Hi All
Can confirm that Adapter works fine with speedgeeks gal updates plus cosmo exec.library with rev1 060@50mhz fine, the fastata gets flaky over 50mhz in a A4000/with mediator. but at standard speed works stable with out problems and its about 2x the speed with a A3640 fitted with Sonnet.

Really Cool mod thanks guys.

It's great to know that another person succeeded with this mod. Are those speedgeeks gal updates really necessary to make the adapter fully functional?

I hope there'll be another batch - I missed the one in December and I haven't got much cash I can spend on my A4000 (which is far away anyway) at the moment, hopefully soon

I have 4 sets of unassembled PCBs. PM me if you're interested in one. You can have it at the original price (less than £20) from over on Amibay.

I wasn't too happy with the fact that the kit didn't just "fit together" because the voltage regulator they included was too thick (not to mention not sinking to anything!) and they had not included an extra row of pin-strips.

I did intend to either buy an extra lot of pin strips or a thinner voltage regulator but never got around to sourcing either.

Plus Cosmos withdrew his Kickstart patches...

I Find that the gal update, all 5 gals gives additional boost of about 30% in memory speed and is totally stabile @50mhz, i tryed 60mhz but it was either the Cpu (being only a rev 1 060) or requires clk 90 mod, plus some 3rd party hardware ie fastata 4000 starts to get flaky @ 60mhz.

With the adaptor, i use the phase 5 librarys with oxypatch and the new cmq from speed geek, and am very happy with the results.

If you try to contact cosmo direct im sure he will be able to help you, i used a extra 060 socket for the top board, and the supplied 040 socket on the bottom board with the pin strips with the left out holes required on top of that, then the regulator problem is gone.

OK, episode #3 of A3660 overclocking is completed!

Once again, many thanks to SuperCosmos for the rev. 6 060 (and for his patience with my stupid mistake delaying this update for another 2 months)

The custom oscillator I made used a dual frequency crystal so changing the frequency was quite easy. The more complex part of this episode was the CLK D4 GAL designed as the solution to keep SDMAC happy.

The CLK D4 GAL switches the mobo to a 1/4x clock during DMA so SDMAC is supplied with clock speed it can handle and the mobo runs at the 1/2x clock speed when the CPU masters the bus. See attached images.

This also works quite well with the 040 but I was really saving it for this episode!

Higher clock speeds are still possible but I will have to source some oscillators or crystals for the next episode.

89.33 MIPS? Does it mean that a lowly A3640 is now faster than a CyberStorm PPC?

(at least according to this - I can't understand what's the second value for, but I assume it's for the PPC)

No, it doesn't mean a lowly A3640 is faster. It's means an A3660 could be faster (if it's running at a high enough clock speed) in certain benchmarks.

The MIPS test used in most benchmark programs is small enough to be cached. So you are really just seeing the CPU performance rather than the overall system performance.

So I have got myself a Rev 3.1 A3640 with the 040-060 CPU adapater and a full Rev 6 060. Yet to put it all together with a modified kickstart yet but hoping to do so soon.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me though, if I get the full set of 3.2 GALs with SpeedGeek's waitstate mod, do I also need to do the delay line mod?

From what I understand the mods are separate, and I only need to do the delay line mod if I want to change to a crystal >60MHz, but I don't know how the 040-060 adapter in there changes things....

Err yeah, I was referring to an upgraded A3640

I suppose this needs more benchmarks then! I will gladly sacrifice my A3640 to science and upgrade it in the next few months

OK, episode #4 of A3660 overclocking is completed!

Unfortunately, SysSpeed becomes less accurate at higher clock speeds so I have included a Scout result as well.

The CLK_D4 GAL signal BGACK_040 is now connected to VCC. This always runs the mobo at the 1/4x clock speed. Also, more A3000 mobo and CLK90 timing mods were made to keep the following clocks skew compensated and stable:

68060 CPU = 80MHz
A3640 logic = 40MHz*
A3000 mobo = 20MHz

Note: Considering that the A3000 is a timing intolerant beast overclocking the mobo to 40MHz was not a practical consideration here.

*A3640 state machine mod required

In principle, I have already explained what you need to do. If you have the technical skills needed, then you don't need a more detailed explanation from me. If you don't have the technical skills needed then it's a complete waste of my time/effort to provide more detailed explanations. The comments made here are self evident on this matter:
