Ive been using VirtualDub and then avi4hv the file seems to convert ok but when I go to playback it just sticks on the first frame?
I dont think its my Codec as ive tried a couple of PCs - Maybe I need an extra tool to degrade the WAV? Maybe a small MPEG clip could be uploaded and we could all work from the same clip? My AVI is 320 x 200 16-bit 555 12 FPS |

Not sure if you are, but you have to do the video and audio separately.

yes. Save the audio as a separate uncompressed 8-bit WAV file.
(mono and stereo are both supported, sample rate must be less than 29KHz.) |

I tried to load a test AVI to the Zone but couldn't manage it for some reason.
Anyway if someone could do a step-by-step guide that would be great I was thinking, HAM6 looks so good imagine what a AGA specific HAM8 version would look like |

Ive attached the small sample MPG im working with the video convertion seems to go ok im guessing the problem lies with the Wav. EDIT: Finaly ive had a bit of luck -VirtualDub/Audio/Audio Conversion 8 Bit Mono or Stereo Sample Rate/Custom I set to 2000 that gave me bit rate of 16khz the file then converted ok to .HV and Played Need to have a better look Last edited by Retro1234; 11 March 2010 at 00:46. |

So you managed to make an HV that worked?
Can you list your steps in detail, I'm still missing something. |

Sure -Sometimes theres still problems for me but doing it in this order seems to work
For example using the Above attached MPEG With VirtualDub VirtualDub File/Open Video File/Space.Mpeg Video/Filters/ADD/Resize -Aspect Ratio = Disabled & Resize/320*anything under 216 Video/Frame Rate/Convert to fps = ? Colour Depth 16 Bit RGB 555 File/Save As .AVI = Space Audio/Full Processing Mode* Audio/Conversion 22050HZ or Custom = ? Precison = 8Bit Channels = Mono or Stereo File/Save Wav = Space.WAV Command Prompt AVI4HV.exe Space.AVI Space.WAV Output file= Space Hopefuly a small window will run through the video while converting. Amiga Hamp.Run Space Now you can convert all your to Amiga hope that helps Last edited by Retro1234; 11 March 2010 at 22:33. |

Thank you Boo Boo for the detailed steps !
Maybe my problem (and NovaCoder too) was the use of different programs to process the audio, as far as I remember, last time I tried it I demuxed video and audio with RippIt, then I resampled the audio file with Goldwave sound editor. Maybe everything should be done with VirtualDub to work. I will make anoter try, I hope this time it will work. I would like to convert some trailers like Aliens, Underworld and a few others. HAM6 frigging should be reduced due to colors being more dark grey/blue. |

Cool thanks for that, will give it another go.
It's a real shame the author hasn't released the source-code, would love to do a HAM8 version |

Damn it, it still does not work !
I tried with the Space.AVI file, following exactly each steps described by Boo Boo, and once I'm in the Windows (XP) shell, avi4hv seems to run okay until it displays the error "audio file must be 8-bit uncompressed WAV". I tried with 8-bit 11Khz, 8-bit 16Khz and 8-bit 22Khz mono and stereo wav files but nothing works. @NovaCoder : Have you tried to convert Space.AVI ? @Boo Boo : Do you know any program that can convert video files (mpeg, avi...) to CDXL like avi4hv does ? Would be nice to try too. |

It converted without problem for me Jack, as well other files i've tried so far.
In the link you can find all the individual files for space: original .mpg, separated and prepared .avi, .wav and the resulting .hv file, so you can test them individually in your encode. Space_files.rar |

@Boo Boo : Congrats, you could convert your file ! And the result is amazing ! To answer your question, yes, I checked many times before saving the audio file, I think it was ok.
@xpect : Thanks for the .rar, I've just tried with your files, and guess what, it ends up with the same error !! Here is what I did : 1) In the DOS prompt I typed: "avi4hv.exe space.avi" 2) avi4hv displayed the file infos ( FPS, H. resolution, V. resolution, bit depth etc.) and asked: "Is this correct (y/n) ?" 3) I typed: "y" 4) It displayed: "audio file (must be 8-bit uncompressed WAV)" Is there something I do wrong ? I'm clueless... I don't understand why it does not work, this time I only used the files present in the .rar archive. Any idea ? |

when it says that you have to type in the name of the wav file.

It worked nicely with the space.avi ! Now I will try with another video file, hope it will be fine. @NovaCoder: Could it be the original video format ? |
